Bio of Guest Speaker

Born in Sidney, Ohio in 1963; our guest speaker, Joe

Ratermann, graduated from Lehman High School in

1981. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps

and spent the next 8 years serving as both a Combat

Engineer and Marine Embassy Guard in Asia, Africa

and Europe. Upon conclusion of his second term in

the Marines, Joe worked his way through both college

and then law school. After graduating law school, he

joined the U.S. Army JAG Corps. In the Marines and

the Army, Joe traveled and worked overseas for over a

decade. He spent several tours in the Balkans,

and completed a year tour in Afghanistan. Several

units with whom he spent time include the 2nd Marine

Division, 3rd Marine Division; 1st Armored Division,

Task Force Falcon, NATO Kosovo Forces; Joint Task

Force 6, and NATO Afghan Training Command. In his

last stateside assignment Joe served as the Group

Judge Advocate for 1st Special Forces Group.

After retiring from military service, Mr. Ratermann

moved his family back to Sidney, Ohio and served

another tour overseas as a civilian legal advisor to a

Joint Special Operations Task Force. He now teaches

World Geography, History and Government at Lehman

Catholic High School.
