IDENTIFICATION OF JOB
Job Title : Wellbeing through Nature Project Assistant
Team : Delivery Team; Nature and Wellbeing
Working Base : AWT Head Office
Responsible to : Wellbeing through Nature Project Manager
Responsible for : No Direct Reports
Overall Purpose of Job
: To support the delivery of nature based activities that promotes improved health and wellbeing for people with long term health conditions and people experiencing mental ill health.
Support opportunities for people from marginalised communities and vulnerable groups to increase self-confidence and social skills through engaging with nature and practical outdoor activities that help build social cohesion and deliver local environment improvements.
Main Responsibilities
: Deliver planned activity programmes suitable for people with different needs and abilities (including those with learning disabilities and complex needs) and varying levels of engagement, (taster sessions to six month placement schemes).
Support practical conservation, food growing and other nature based activities for people with long term health issues and those experiencing mental ill health.
Lead and supervise practical conservation, food growing and other nature based activities for marginalised communities and supported vulnerable groups.
Support vulnerable people to take positive actions for their health and wellbeing.
Work as part of the team to develop and deliver WtN and support the wider work of the Nature and Wellbeing team.
Promote the benefits that nature has on people’s health and wellbeing through direct delivery and communication channels including social media.

Management and Supervision
: Lead a number of activities for marginalised groups, with responsibility for the health and safety of those groups and project volunteers.
Accountability and Resources
: Contribute to project development as part of a team and be responsible for agreed aspects of delivery.
Job Impact : Works internally to support the Wellbeing through Nature Project Team. Works externally though contact with vulnerable people and marginalised communities, the public, and interest groups.
Independence and Judgement
: Work to agreed plans and targets. Ability to react and respond to unexpected non-routine situations, sometimes working independently supervising groups.Responsible for own skills, training and development.
People and Contacts
: Some liaison with a range of stakeholders including beneficiaries, community groups and public.
Creativity and Innovation :
Opportunity to influence and input creatively to the development of WtN activities and outcomes. Willingness to develop and look beyond the boundaries of the immediate role.
Working Conditions
: Based at Jacob’s Wells Road, with outdoors working at a range of locations. Must be available to work some weekends and evenings.

Experience At least two year’s proven experience of delivering community projects with a diverse range of people and volunteers. (E)

Competence, Knowledge & Skills
Degree or equivalent in conservation / community engagement related subject. (D)
Ability and confidence to support people with complex needs (E) Ability to work to agreed time-scales and good time management(E) Ability to work independently using own initiative and judgement, as well
as in close co-operation with the project team (E). Knowledge of health and safety practices. (E) Excellent presentation skills (written and verbal) and ability to
communicate effectively with a wide range of people (E) Knowledge of practical conservation and horticultural skills (D) Confident in Microsoft packages relevant to the post (Word and Excel) (D) Knowledge of the nature, health and wellbeing agenda(D) Hold current driving licence (E) and be able to drive a mini bus (D) Willingness to work outdoors, and weekends/evenings as appropriate(E)
