An informational brochure and map of the Statehouse are attached for your convenience. The purpose of this meeting is to facilitate engagement with your lawmakers on issues of importance to small counties in the state budget. Each county will need to call their legislators and arrange a meeting for that day. The schedule for day will be as follows: 10:00 a.m. – Meet in the Thomas Worthington Center (sometimes referred to as the “classroom”) in the lower level of the statehouse for coffee, donuts and a brief update from CCAO staff (please see attached map). 10:30 a.m. – The group will disperse to attend the meetings they have arranged with their legislators. 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. – Lunch will be provide by CCAO and will be available in the Thomas Worthington Center. Please reconvene there as your meetings allow for lunch. You may continue meetings after lunch as needed. We need to know the number of people attending from each county so we have an accurate lunch count. Kathy will keep track of the appointments, and provided commissioners are open to sharing, the information will then be shared with everyone else in the group so that others may attend. If you would like a member of the CCAO policy staff to attend a meeting with you, please let Kathy know. PARKING You are welcome to park for free at the CCAO office and walk a short two blocks to the Statehouse. Or, there is paid parking under the Statehouse, though that tends to fill up on when lawmakers are conducting business. CCAO staff will be at the office to walk you over to the statehouse prior to 10:00 am, for those who would like assistance.

PLEASE RSVP YOUR ATTENDANCE Please notify Kathy Dillon on or before March 10, 2017 at [email protected] and let her know if you will be able to participate. Reminder, we need to know the number of people attending from each county so we have an accurate lunch count. In addition, we are tentatively setting the following dates for meetings and conference calls for the remainder of the year. Please mark your calendar for these dates. A notice and agenda for these meetings will be sent out approximately two weeks prior to each meeting.

Capitol Square Complex

WIRELESS INTERNETMost areas of the Capitol Square complex offer free wireless access on the “OGA” (Ohio General Assembly) network.

GUIDED TOURSFree guided tours are offered daily and depart from the Map Room on the ground level. Tours are approximately 45 minutes in length. Groups of 10 or more are requested to call 614/728-3726 in advance to assure a guide is available for their group.

OHIO STATEHOUSE MUSEUMThe Ohio Statehouse Museum, located on the ground level, features interactive exhibits that enrich the experience of all visitors. Visitors will leave the Ohio Capitol with a richer understanding of the workings of state government.

SELF-GUIDED TOURSVisitors may wander on their own anytime during Statehouse hours with a self-guided tour brochure. Self-guided tour brochures are available in the Map Room on the ground level of the Ohio Statehouse.

AUDIO WAND TOURSVisitors may borrow an audio wand with pre-recorded information about the Ohio Statehouse and explore the building at their own pace. Audio wands are available in the Statehouse Museum Shop on the ground level of the Ohio Statehouse. While the use of tour wands is free, an I.D. must be left during the tour.

VIDEO & AUDIO PODCAST TOURSExplore the Ohio Statehouse with an iPod or other digital device. A free series of video and audio podcasts are available to lead visitors throughout the historic Statehouse and the Capitol Square complex, highlighting the architectural features and rooms, artwork and history of the building. Simply open iTunes on your mobile digital device and search "Capitol Ohio" and download.

CELL PHONE AUDIO TOURSVisitors can explore the 10 acres of Statehouse grounds with their cell phone and learn about the rich history of the Ohio Statehouse, garden areas and important individuals and events by calling the number posted at the base of each outdoor monument.

The Ohio Statehouse was completed in 1861 at the beginning of America’s Civil War. Restored to its 1861 appearance, the Statehouse maintains its historic character as it continues to function as the center of state government in Ohio.

The Ohio Statehouse represents one of America’s finest examples of Greek Revival architecture and is one of the oldest working statehouses in the United States. Visitors can see where and how the vital business of state government is conducted, view the magnificent architectural and artistic treasures. Guests can learn more about Ohio through guided tours, educational displays, special programming and the Ohio Statehouse Museum. The Statehouse Museum Shop offers Ohio-themed gifts and Graze offers breakfast and lunch weekdays.

OHIO STATEHOUSE PARKING GARAGEDrivers who utilize daily parking services in the Ohio Statehouse underground parking garage are required to take their parking ticket with them and use any one of the “Pay-on-Foot” machines located on the green level. Payment must be made prior to exiting the garage. The “Pay-on-Foot” machines accept cash and MasterCard, Visa, American Express and Discover Card credit cards.

GRAZEDine in Ohio’s Civil War-era Capitol on made-to-order entrees and homemade desserts. Graze, located on the ground floor, serves breakfast 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. and lunch 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. weekdays. Graze features a dining facility, offering inside seating for nearly 100 visitors, and an outdoor patio during good weather.

STATEHOUSE MUSEUM SHOPThe Statehouse Museum Shop, located on the ground floor of the Ohio Statehouse, specializes in unique gifts with an Ohio or political theme. Most gifts are made by Ohio artists or businesses, and many items are exclusive to the Museum Shop. Gifts range from wine and pottery to lapel pins and clothing. Visit Monday-Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Gifts can also be purchased online at StatehouseShop.com.

VOluNTEERS The Ohio Statehouse Museum Education Center relies on dedicated volunteers to provide free tours to thousands of visitors every year. We are seeking candidates who enjoy working with the public and are comfortable speaking to large groups.
