Skipper’s Notes 2018
Since the early 1980’s the Crescent have remarkably had only two captains Richard Ford and Jon Morris. In my first annual message since being appointed at the February AGM it seems only right to acknowledge the tremendous job Jon Morris has done for the club over the last 18 seasons, ensuring the club stayed true to its remit of giving the whole team a chance to contribute every Sunday whilst leading the club with a friendly competitive spirit.
It is a privilege to be taking over the reins from Jon, and in doing so knowing I’ve difficult shoes to fill. I’m delighted to announce the appointment of Richard Hall as Club Vice Captain, and would ask all at the Cresent to allow us both time to find our feet in the coming season as we seek to continue Jon’s great work.
The season is fast approaching as are the pre-season nets, I would request we all make an effort to attend. The club have identified the need to increase our membership and ensuring any new faces are greeted by a healthy number of the team at nets is a key to retaining potential new players.
Please also make the effort to ensure you dig your whites out early this season, get your availabilities updated and reach out to any potential new recruits so we begin the season well.
The club is again planning both domestic and overseas tours this coming season, I thought last year’s French tour was a one off, but due to the undeniable success of the 3 days in southern France we’re all set to visit Portugal in September.
I would also like to point out the hard work being done by Joe Gatford and helpers over the post season on our square. The workload goes up as the season approaches so please do reach out to Joe to offer help where you can.
It is exciting times at Horsdean, the Horsdean Community Sport Association (HCSA) are closing in on being granted a 25 year lease, which will then allow the HSCA apply for a variety of grants to improve Horsdean for all. We should acknowledge the hard work by the HSA committee in moving the lease process forward.
