2011 and 2012 ~2650

2012 We are hovering around 2600 members…as in 2003..We are fighting over the same number!

Some points worth mentioning…

1. In 2003-2006 we saw a decline of about 13%

2. A concerted effort to recruit new members at conferences took place.. in 5 years we recouped the lost 13%

3. The past three years we have stabilized around 2650 members.

4. Large increases in new members for the past 7 years, sometimes up to 1000 new members!

5. BUT.. each year we had an equivalent large drop.. No new renewals.

Where are we?

Awaiting NSS and Beams

Conference Efforts

Why1. Of course, recruit!2. Wave the NPSS flag. We are typically

(co)sponsors

What is ‘Best’ way to do this??Sort of like ‘what is the best ride at Disney? Lots of opinions!

Ok. Lets set some Goals1. Systematic and consistent approach at all

conferences.a) But what is this approach?

2. Core set of volunteers.a) Hard Work!!

3. Better Targetinga) Europe, Asia, Students, Senior

Members,???4. Still learning.. Is it worth sending a volunteer

to Hawaii for an 80 member conference?

Need systematic focused approach. Focus on students, Asia, Europe? More on this later!

This is us..

1.Large Number of regular members

2.Not so many students…

3.Some fellows and life but these are not growth areas?

Who are we?

Page 6: Membership Report Some numbers, ideas, questions Sal Portillo

How do we do this? Devil is in the details!

What if?

1.We increased our retention from ~75% to 80% (ahead of IEEE by 10%)

2.Reduce the large swings by being better at sales..

3.Increase our peak recruit numbers by branching

4.Had a net 2% growth each year

Where do we want to be?18 year NPSS recruitment ??

How do we do it? General concepts1. Focus on Retention

1. I need to develop a plan that allows me to contact those that did not resign, letter from the president had myself perhaps, reminder of benefits, incentives, etc..

2. Aim for a sustainable yearly growth rate of 2-3%1. Focus recruitment efforts on students, asia pacific,

europe.

3. Reduce Swings

4. Focus On Students

5. Increase Focus on Asia Pacific, Europe

6. Consistent Approach to recruiting

7. Documentation that can articulate the benefits of IEEE+NPSS
