Members Win Eleven Medals at the 2018 Regional Championships

Volume CXXIII NOVEMBER, 2017 Our heartfelt congratulations to all 22 skaters who competed and represented our club so well at the 2018 South Atlantic Regional Qualifying and Non-Qualifying Championships and 2018 Eastern Great Lakes Regional Non-Qualifying Championships. Nine skaters captured 11 medals! Nine skaters also won 13 Special Achievement Awards (page 6.) In the South Atlantic qualifying competition, Georgia Bolocan, Jeslyn Choi, and Elvira Junnila (all Intermediate) and Katia Kochengina and Kaitlyn McGarigle (both Juvenile) qualified for final rounds. In the non-qualifying competition, Amelia Marsh (High Beginner) qualified for the final round and won silver, while Elisa Bode (Pre-Preliminary) and Cathy Sabella (Adult Pre-Bronze) landed silver medals. In the Eastern Great Lakes non-qualifying competition, Audrey Kate Johnson won silver at the Juvenile test track level. Results are listed on pages 5 - 6. My favorite element is double loop. My least favorite element is spins because they make me dizzy.

Tell us about your school and extracurricular activities.

I am a sophomore at Mount Vernon Presbyterian School. My favorite class is AP World. I also run track for MVPS and received awards for the schools fastest times in the 100 and 400 last year as a freshman. I volunteer through my church, Peachtree Presbyterian, and have led small group for 5/6th grade students and worked as a camp counselor at our middle school camp.

Least favorite word: Moist

What turns you off? People who smell bad

Favorite food: Sushi

Least favorite food: Tomatoes

Favorite TV Show: “Riverdale”

Favorite Movie: “Almost Famous”

Sound I love: My skis cutting through fresh powder

Pet Peeve: Bad drivers who don’t use blinkers

Favorite vacation: My family goes snow skiing out west every spring break for the past 5 years and it’s my favorite thing to do!

My favorite program is my current program. I love my music, Pink Floyd’s “Shine on Crazy Diamond,” and that really motivates me and helps me get into the program.

I have a brother, Luke, who is in 8th grade. I have a mini golden doodle named Georgia who my whole family is obsessed with.

When I was 7 going onto a warm up for a competition, I forgot to take off my blade guards and fell on the ice in front of everyone.

“Modern Family” because my dad reminds me of Phil.

My dad gave me a record player for my birthday and I love listening to albums from the 70’s. Pink Floyd “Dark Side of the Moon” is my favorite.

My iphone, my dog Georgia, and a boat

What famous person would you most like to meet?

Selena Gomez because her life seems very interesting, and she is very inspirational.
