Kitty Kats advance in region The Kitty Kats faced off against London for the Area Championship in Sinton this past Saturday, Nov. 3. They defeated the Pirates in a three game match with final scores of 25-12, 25-17, 25-18. The playoffs are not anything new for the Kitty Kats, as this is their 19th year in a row to clench a playoff birth. "It's just so good to get that first win, I don't care who it's against," said Coach Alexander. "Everyone is nervous; everyone is running on high adrenaline. “That first win is so important just to get into your own groove, into your own game. That's a huge key," she added. In spite of finding their groove, the Kitty Kats faced a tough test in the second game. The Kats jumped off to a big lead but found themselves tied up with the London team near the middle of the game. "We had to call a timeout to reassure the girls and remind them how they got here, to set- tle our nerves and make sure we played disci- plined fundamentally strong ball." stated Coach Diedre Alexander. Once the Kitty Kats again caught their rhythm, it was their team See KATS, Page 3A Wildcats cage Kenedy Lions Caleb Lemke blocks for Jacob Garcia in this running play for the Wildcats. The Wildcats defeated the Lions 20-6 in the dis- trict matchup. News-View Photo by Ben Lapp The Yorktown Wildcats hosted the Kenedy Lions Friday night for a district matchup. The Wildcats were successful at defeating the Lions with a final score of 20-6. Yorktown took charge early in the game forc- ing the Lions to punt twice giving themselves a chance for a scoring drive. Less than 4 minutes into the game, quarterback Derek Franke scored on 2 yard keeper after a 19 yard run from Jacob Garcia, putting the Wildcats up with the lead. The point after attempt would not be good making the score 6-0. After the Wildcat touchdown both teams played great defense, forcing punts to be exchanged. It wasn’t until 7:35 in the 2nd quarter that the Wildcats would strike again on a 63 yard run by Franke. Trever Reed would be successful at adding on the 2 point conversion play for the Wildcats, giving them the 14-0 lead over Kenedy. Closer to the half, the Lion defense had forced the Wildcats back in their own redzone. As Yorktown set up to punt, the Lions were able to block the kick and recover the ball in the Wildcat endzone for a touchdown. The point after kick was no good by the Lions making the score 14-6 with 3:53 left before the half. After coming out after halftime, both teams failed to score during the third quarter. Prayer is powerful and believing is receiving and trusting in the Lord.I also want to thank Mr. and Mrs. Clifton Jacob and Wanda Hays for all theirhard work, for being there with us day in and day out and for loving andcaring for little Hunter. Wanda, thank you for staying on top with questionsand concerns for so many doctors.

And importantly to my two daughters, Gabby & Hailey, thank you forstaying strong, having positive faith and believing that we would all getthrough this long and difficult stressful time. It’s still very stressful, butI love you both very much and remember, our Lord Jesus Christ first.

The Yorktown HighSchool Kitty Kats varsityvolleyball team traveled toBenavides to face the districtchampions from District 31in a playoff warmup matchOct. 29.The Kitty Kats defeated

Benavides last year for thearea championship. Yorktown was victorious

in the match up this week

with scores of 25-20, 25-7,25-23 in the three games thatwere played.Benavides offered some

good defense and a few hardserves, but in the end it wasYorktown’s strong offensethat earned the win. “In the beginning we

made a few mistakes withserves and were a little slug-gish defensively,” said Coach

Deirdre Alexander. “Buttoward the middle of the firstgame we came around andstarted to really put the ballaway. Benavides has somegreat defense, but were notreally pounding it at us.Once we cut down our mis-takes, we were able to get onsome long runs”

that became hard to stop. They finished off game

two strong with a eight pointlead. The third game ended

with a score of 25-18 and theKats found themselves walk-ing away as RegionalQuarterfinalists!"We have a 20 match win

streak going right now. “Hopefully, confidence

stemming from those wins aswell as experience frombeing in the playoffs beforewill help us a we move for-ward. “Today was our first play-

off game. We looked goodoffensively we just didn’tserve as well as I would haveliked, but I'm hoping nowthat we have ‘gotten our feet

wet’ so to speak, that thosethings will get better. “Although we have quite a

bit of playoff tradition thefirst playoff game of the sea-son is still all about nervousand containing your emo-tions. In the end you justhave to settle in and playyour game."This year's team has ded-

icated their season to some-one special and since thenthey have not fallen short, that's the exact time our winstreak started. They came together and

decided why they were play-ing and it's motivated them aswell as inspired them to sethigher goals. “They have stopped play-

ing for just themselves, andbecause of that I a lot of con-fidence in what they canaccomplish." CoachAlexander said.

God firstHeavenly Father, our

decisions in life are chal-lenged by mistakes we makeand are chalked up as learn-ing experiences. But stubbornness and

resolve not to admit mis-takes leaves us not learningin a lot of cases; resulting indeciding we know betterthan those around us.Lord, help us to look into

our hearts and admit we arebetter with truth and kind-ness while making decisionsin learning more into theneeds of others. We ask in the name of

our Savior, Jesus Christ.Amen.We are going Your way.Pray for those who are ill,

suffering, or are in harmsway.

Family fortunesThis young man was still

single, living at home andworking in the family busi-ness.One day, his father told

the son that the doctor hadgiven him only 6 months tolive and that soon the youngman would inherit the familyfortune. The young man wanted

to have a wife to share hisgood life with.He remembered the beau-

tiful girl he had seen whohad just moved to town. The young man went to

see her and told her hisfather was going to die in afew short months and hewould be inheriting $40 mil-lion.He gave her his business

card, asked her to marryhim, and told her he wouldbe back in a week for heranswer. Two days later the beauti-

Passing truck savespropertyIf you were slumbering

fitfully Saturday night orwaiting to move your clockback one hour, you were dis-

turbed by the fire siren goingoff about 12:23 a.m. or ifyou had already turned itback, it would be about11:23 p.m. (confusing, ain'tit). It took a few minutes to

get the fire truck going butthere was a fire tanker truckheading north as fast as itwould go.Using the roads in that

direction slowed theprogress as the truck had totake evasive action dodgingall the deep potholes withoutlosing control and still main-tain speed.Upon reaching Cabeza

Store area, the truck went onuntil hitting dirt road andeverybody behind the truckgaging in dust.Reaching Ckodre road at

the T, it became obvious thatthere was a fire at the oldEmil Ckodre Place at theright where a fire was stillburning some buildings nextto the house. It was at the place of

Chris and Debbie Kellerwho were sound at sleepwhen the fire started.Someone was passing by

and blew the horn on hispickup to awaken them. They did get some of

their vehicles out but by thenthe fire was out of control.By the time the fire

department arrived, therewasn't to much to save any-more.The butane tank outside

was too near the fire anddoing what it was supposedto do, it blew the safetyvalve and shot flames 50 feetinto the air releasing thepressure built up in the tank.If it hadn't had that safety

devise as required by law,the whole place would haveblown up killing everybodynear.

John Green, fire-manWe are lucky to have

John Green living inNordheim as well as hisfamily. He is an officer in the

Austin Fire Department andis well-versed in procedurein fighting fires. He is also a Rope Rescue

Professional and gives cours-es in rescue procedure allover the State of Texas. While instructing our

firefighters to cool down thebutane tank first, he went toCurtis and Debbie and askedall the right questions andhad the situation well inhand by the time theYorktown Fire Departmentarrived. Our tanker truck used up

all the water it had and theYorktown firefighters fin-ished up with their watertrucks to put out the rest of

the fire arriving at the righttime. The house wasn't in dan-

ger any more and it wasn'tdetermined how the firestarted, but the loss of toolsand a couple of motorcyclesalong with a boat, it was alla total loss.No one was injured and

the couple was grateful forthe fact that the house wasnot burned. The electricity and gas

was out, and other than that, they were very lucky to havesomeone drive by and alertthem when they did. They would like to thank

both fire departments forcoming to their aid.

the Big Tom Casino in theConference hall behind thecasino with over 300 peopleattending. That area is famous for

the many farms with two andthree story homes, big grainbins, storage buildings, andother farm buildings. Most of the area produces

corn, wheat, and soybeans. Most all the corn crops wereharvested with only a fewremaining. The temperature ranged

from 70 to low 20's.There were a number of

wind turbines in the area andlarge towns with a Wal Martand etc. being a distanceaway.Ali Lutz Pargmann's
