The $12.6 million project, funded by the Australian Government, will remove the existing roundabout and construct a new fully signalised intersection. In addition to enhancing safety for all road users, installing traffic signals at this intersection will allow greater control of traffic flow via Intelligent Transport System (ITS) technology, helping to reduce congestion and improve travel times. The intersection upgrade will involve: • Excavation works to remove the existing roundabout, medians and road pavement Realignment of traffic lanes on University Road • Construction of additional traffic lanes, including dedicated turning lanes, on University Road, Macarthur Drive and Melton Black Drive • Installation of traffic lights, traffic cameras and pedestrian facilities at the intersection Construction of new footpaths and cycle lanes • Removal of existing vegetation and trees • Public utility works (e.g water, electricity) • Relocation of bus stop facilities • Asphalting and linemarking • Lighting and signage installation During this project, motorists and residents can expect the following changed traffic conditions: Reduced speed limits on University Road and Macarthur Drive Lane closures on University Road and Macarthur Drive Removal of parking bays along Macarthur Drive — this will be a permanent change due to the construction of additional traffic lanes along this section of road Relocation of bus stops along Macarthur Drive — please speak to your Sunbus driver for more information about alternative stops Restricted access for cyclists and pedestrians — detours may be in place Traffic delays, particularly during peak hours. To avoid delays, motorists are advised to allow extra travel time when using University Road or Macarthur Drive and consider alternative routes wherever possible during the project.
