PDG Phil Sammer and PP/PE Carol Riley welcomed visiting Rotarians. They are Jeremiah Gunia from the Rotary Club of Sumner WA and PP Kristine Westmoreland from the Rotary Club of Windward Oahu.
Today was PP Sally Blanchard’s day. PDG’s Nalani Flinn and Phil Sammer, presented two awards to Sally.1) Double major donor pin and crystal $10000 and 2) White Hat award for donating $5000 in one year!
Our speaker Kim Fujiuchi Executive Director of Na Koa Football Club and CEO of Ahuahui Koa Auenue gave a very interesting talk on the UH Football and Athletics fundraising program

President Steve Morgan called the meeting to order. He welcomed everyone to Rotary. President Steve told us that today in test tube baby day. The first test tube baby is 40 years old today! He introduced the Head Table: President Steve, PP Gene Grounds, and our speaker Kim Fujiuchi.
Glen Perry led the club in the pledge to the American flag.
President Steve introduced the guests of Rotarians. Karen Ehrhorn, wife of Peter Ehrhorn. The guests with shell leighs came to the front of the room and PDG Phil Sammer asked us to sing our Welcome Song. PP/PE Carol Riley welcomed our special guests and asked them to introduce themselves: Jeremiah Gunia from Washington and Kristine Westmoreland.
PP Chuck Braden shared the bucket. Denny Meyer said it is good to be here today and told him his table was debating the second amendment. PP Dave Hamil donated dollars while congratulating PP Sally Blanchard on her upcoming recognition. Patti Mitchel said that she needs a house sitter (bird sitter). Today is also the anniversary of the day her brother-in-law, a police officer, was murdered. She spoke about what a positive influence he was on her life. PDG Phil Sammer welcomed PDG Nalani Flinn to our meeting, also congratulating PP Sally Blanchard. Nalani Flinn thanked everyone for helping he have a wonderful year as DG and congratulated PP Sally Blanchard. PP Steve Koyama and PP Dick Matti congratulated PP Sally Blanchard. PP Steve gave $100 to the Rotary Foundation. PP Kristine Westmoreland talked about her time at PETS with Nalani Flinn. PP Joe Gedeon said he was sorry for missing so many meetings and told us that his father Tony Gedeon is out today with the flu. He gave $50 to the foundation. Thomas Hall said he felt like he was back home at the meeting. He said hello to Nalani and wished President Steve a good year. Lisa Ahmed said it was good to be back. President Steve said he was paying his dues today, with his credit card, and reminded others to do the same.
Announcements:
1) Paul McGuillicuddy reported that our School Supply Drive will be held on July 28 at Wallmart, Keeaumoku from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Sign-up sheets were on the tables.
PDG Phil Sammer and PDG Nalani Flinn asked PP Sally Blanchard to come to the front of the room. They presented her with two awards: 1) she received a double major donor pin for $10,000 plus donations. 2) She received a white hat for the white hat award: giving $5000 in a Rotary year to the Foundation. When asked why she gives, she said because giving gives her joy. When she went to her first Rotary meeting, she saw about 100 men and only 4 women. Then she went to a Rotary International Foundation and learned about the Rotary Foundation and all of the good it does. She joined Rotary and decided she would become a Paul Harris Fellow. She gave $1,000 and told the club she would match $100 other club members gave. She ended up collection $2,000 for the Foundation and has been a supporter ever since.
PP Gene Grounds introduced our guest speaker: Kim Fujiuchi, the Executive Director of Na Koa Football Club and the Chief Operating Officer of Ahuahui Koa Auenue, the fundraising organization for the University of Hawaii at Manoa Athletics.
Kim began by saying that PP Dave Livingston invited her to make a presentation to the Club. She talked about how she got into the positions she holds today. She met Jim Donovan when he was running the Hawaii Bowl. He told her he wanted her to help make it visible throughout the year. She did and when he became the Athletic Directors, he asked her to apply for a job with the University. She was a football fan, so she applied for the fundraising job.
She raises money for football and the athletics department. Kim shared some statistics, comparing the UH football program with similar universities. UH is going well. They have strong support from the Legislature. Na Koa is about education, health and safety. For education they provide two semesters of summer school. For health, they rovide fruits, nuts,

bagels, smoothies, and sandwich bars. For safety, the provide knee braces and safety equipment.
Funds are raised through memberships, events, grants, and philanthropic donations. Individually, we can buy tickets, become members, support events, and make donations.
Kim drew a ticket and Kathryn Henski won. She drew a red marble! We recited the Four Way Test. President Steve reminded that now we can view our meetings on Fact Book Live! He congratulated PP Sally Blanchard, thanked Kathy Higa for being greeter, and thanked PP/PE Carol Riley for being scribe.

GLADIATOR STARS AT POLIO EVENT
Actor Russell Crowe and co-stars of the Oscar-winning movie “Gladiator” gathered 6 June for a spe-cial End Polio Now fundraising event inside the Col-osseum in Rome, Italy. Produced by CineConcerts and presented by Fo-rum Music Village, Gladiator in Concert: Live at the Colosseum, showed the 2000 movie on a 65-foot HD screen to more than 300 people. During the screening, conductor Justin Freer led the Italian Cinema Orchestra with vocal soloist and co-composer Lisa Gerrard in performing the entire soundtrack live to picture with the images, dialogue, and special effects preserved. Guests included, Ital-ian actress and Rotary polio ambassador Maria Gra-zia Cucinotta, celebrity chef Cristina Bowerman, lo-cal Rotary members, Italian dignitaries, and “Gladiator” fans who purchased tickets to support Rotary’s End Polio Now campaign. The event was spearheaded by Rotarian Alberto Cecchini, a mem-ber of the Rotary Club of Roma Nord-Est, Italy. More than $500,000 was raised for polio eradication efforts. Crowe, who won an Academy Award for his perfor-mance, was joined by fellow castmates Connie Niel-sen and Tomas Arana. Italian soccer star Frances-co Totti and some of his AS Roma teammates at-tended the event and signed jerseys that were auc-tioned off. “The event is not just about reuniting with Russell and other cast members … but also to raise aware-ness about Rotary International’s work in ending po-lio forever,” Nielsen said during the event. “I believe we all have the collective power and responsibility to help empower those around the world, and promot-ing health care is essential.”

Biography:
Steve Szabo has a Masters of Science degree from the University of Toronto. He is married to his wife Su-san and they have one daughter. He has been an en-trepreneur most of his life, first in Canada and then in Hawaii after relocating in 1996.
His businesses have included an Art Gallery, a world-wide excursion company, a film post-production com-pany and a network marketing company. Steve has also been an Apple Certified Master Trainer and an instructor at the University of Hawaii. He has travelled around the US and Canada coaching and motivating entrepreneurs for the last 7 years.
