The City of Brampton leads or partners on more than 175 Grow Green initiatives, including community programs, transit improvements, tree planting, and infrastructure construction and management.

The Grow Green vision is for Brampton to be a community that conserves, enhances and balances our natural and built environments to create a healthy, sustainable city. We will carry out our responsibilities to meet the needs of our community without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.

How can you get involved?Brampton Grow Green is not just a City of Brampton project. Its success depends on the efforts of local businesses, industries, environmental groups, community leaders and associations, students, seniors and families.

As a homeowner, consumer, commuter, resident and leader, your everyday decisions make a difference. To help Brampton Grow Green for future generations please consider:

• Installing a rain barrel in your yard

• Planting a tree or wildflower garden in your yard

• Installing water efficient taps throughout your home

• Walking or riding your bike to the corner store instead of taking your car

• Taking transit to work once a week

• Installing a programmable thermostat in your home

• Choosing appliances with the “Energy Star” logo

• Recycling and composting your household waste

• Choosing products with less packaging

• Joining a local environmental group and inspiring action in others

Brampton Grow Green has six goals.

Invest in PEOPLE to create a healthy, livable and safe community

Protect and respect WATER as a non-renewable, critical resource

Manage LAND to sustain the natural environment

Reduce ENERGY usage and manage its impact on our environment

Reduce impacts on AIR quality

Reduce and manage material considered WASTE

Within each goal, there are specific objectives and actions – both corporate (City of Brampton) actions, and community ones.

Each goal has metrics and targets to track our progress and measure our short- and long-term environmental performance. Our performance will be tracked online at www.brampton.ca/growgreen.

Brampton Grow Green is the City’s first Environmental Master Plan (EMP). It is a framework to ensure Brampton continues to grow as a healthy and livable community.

Brampton Grow Green identifies, protects and enhances what is important to us – clean air and water, and healthy rivers and forests – by making sure environmental sustainability is considered in every decision that affects our city.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ONTARIO GREENBELT!

11 YEARS OLD ON FEBRUARY 12, 2016

What a great day for us to remember all the unique gifts our

greenbelt provides.

And what a perfect occasion for Sierra Club to say THANK YOU for your

interest and enthusiasm at Sierra Club’s December 8th deputation:

Achieving Urban Greenbelt Status for Etobicoke Creek.

Please consider recommending prompt action on greenbelting your creek as you

work toward implementing NHEMS.

Thank you,
