Cost and convenience tips›› Fit one Thunderbolt™ 3 adapter

to each screen or projector in your organisation. Then every X20 user can connect – no need for individual adapters.

›› Fit TVs and projectors with a Miracast dongle and users can connect via WiFi.

Thunderbolt™ 3 is a high-speed breakthrough, enabling users to daisy-chain

multiple devices. For enterprise users, this eliminates the hassle of connecting

at the start and end of each day. Instead, peripherals and the network can be

left plugged into a dock, and users connect and disconnect everything via the

X20’s single Thunderbolt™ 3 port. Thunderbolt™ 3 provides:

• 40Gb/sec transfer rates.

• The ability to run two separate 4K monitors at a flicker-free 60Hz.

• Up to 100 watts of power to run external devices.

• The ability to daisy-chain up to 6 devices from one port.

• Backwards compatibility with DVI, HDMI and VGA via adapters.

Most large organisations have users who handle

computationally intensive tasks. For the first time ever,

they can be equipped with the same device as other users.

Power users can, via the X20’s Thunderbolt™ 3 port,

daisy chain an external GPU and a high speed external

RAID enclosure for massive external storage, providing

the capability for highly demanding tasks in a single

connection.

Connect two 4K screens and the X20 can be the hub in

an engineering or financial modelling setup. Add a set of

high-end speakers and the X20 can be the core of a video

editing suite.

In Australia, Toshiba is focused purely on the business market. The X20, Z30 and Z20 are designed and configured to meet the needs of fleet operators with diverse user groups. Each is fully optimised for effortless deployment with a common BIOS, firmware and imagery. Other fleet-friendly features include:

Instead, the X20, like its stablemates the Z30 and the Z20, has a Toshiba-

developed BIOS to launch and control the major hardware elements and

interface with the operating system. This has important consequences.

For a start, the X20’s BIOS is resistant to attack because its specification is

proprietary and unique to the device. In addition, Toshiba’s BIOS self-checks at

start-up to see whether the code itself has been tampered with.

Toshiba also adds component control and security functions to the BIOS to

protect IDs and passwords, including user authentication via the TPM chip, hard

disk encryption and more.

In an environment where enterprises face escalating threats, the X20’s

proprietary BIOS provides an additional layer of security at the system level.

You might know Toshiba as the company that invented the world’s first industry standard notebook computer in 1985. But Toshiba’s origins go back much further.

Toshiba is Seriously Japanese, formed from the merger

of two highly innovative companies. One was founded in

1875 by Tanaka Hisashige, a famed inventor and engineer

who was known as the genius of mechanical wonders.

The other was started by Ichisuke Fujioka, regarded in

his day as Japan’s Edison. Toshiba has innovation in its

DNA, earning 31,000 patents in the past 31 years.

A member of the Fortune Global 500Today, Toshiba is one of the world’s largest vertically

integrated electronics companies, with 187,000 employees

and sales of US$50.16 billion (2016), and a vast breadth of

industrial capabilities.

Trusted partner of Microsoft and IntelToshiba has a history of firsts in mobile computing. The

company also designs, develops and manufactures its

devices in-house. As a result, both Microsoft and Intel

turn to Toshiba to develop next-generation devices to

test and refine new processors and software.

Many of the X20’s best features are hidden within the reinforced, shock-tested, monocoque magnesium-alloy casework. One example is a brand new heat management system, made possible by a radical new fan design.

CPUs produce heat – a lot of it. To run an Intel Core

Processor at full power, Toshiba’s engineers had to

solve the challenge of removing the heat – a notorious

notebook killer – while keeping the incredibly slim design.

To start with, Toshiba’s engineers developed a new fan

that is just 3.7mm thin. This was achieved by adapting

the proven, highly durable bearings used in hard disk

drives (Toshiba is one of the worlds largest manufacturers

of high speed HDDs).

The engineers then turned to physics, running computer

simulations of heat and air flow. The result is a new

cooling system that uses two entry points to exploit

Bernoulli’s Principle. This helps circulate air more

efficiently to keep the processor running reliably at high

clock speeds without excessive battery usage.

A blend of history and engineering make Toshiba a good partner.

A solid example of good engineering.
