As you may have noced Mr Millar and his pupil media team have taken over the producon of the newsleer which will be issued every 3/4 weeks. The pupils were keen to be responsible for displaying their news to the wider school community and I always like to encourage their wring and ICT skills. I think that for the first issue we must focus on the amazing effort pupils (supported by Parent/Carers) have made with their new school uniform. I have to look twice when a pupil walks past me in a blaz- er and e because they look so grown-up. The pupils are also telling me that they feel very responsible in their new ouits. As I have said in previous leers black and white uniform including blazers can be bought at a reasonable cost in the supermarkets but feel free to contact us for further advice. We have had an excellent start to the new term with smaller class sizes and a recognized S6 and the new S1’s are so hard-working and mature that they have fied in perfectly. I look forward to meeng you all over the course of the year and hope you have a great week- end. Best Wishes, Miss Chad. Issue 1 09/09/16

Pilrig Park visits the Book Festival

On Tuesday 30th

August a group

of pupils went

to listen to Dan-

ny Scott, author

of the Scotland

Stars F.C. football books, at the Edinburgh Book Festival.

Danny is from Penicuik. He grew up loving football and

still does even though he supports Hearts! Danny has

been a goalie for many years and plays for the Edinburgh

Writers football team all over Europe.

Danny’s books are about a football mad boy who moves

schools and is desperate to get into the school football

team. This is not always easy. Read the books to find out

how Callum Ferguson (his fictional character gets on).

During the course of the reading somehow Sarah and Frankie managed to get on stage with Sarah holding the football

World Cup!!

After the reading, pupils who bought one of Danny’s books, had the books signed by the author. We asked Danny if he

could visit us at Pilrig Park and guess what, he said “Yes”.

The newspaper group met with two of our senior pupils

Question: What are your names?

Kyle and Caitlin: My name is Kyle Pryde and I am Caitlin McCall. Kyle is

Depute Head Boy and stand in Head Boy on a Monday and Tuesday when

our Head Boy is on work experience. Caitlin is Head Girl.

Question: What group are you in?

Kyle and Caitlin: We are both in 6B.

Question: What ages are you?

Kyle and Caitlin: Kyle: I am 16, 17 in March; Caitlin: I am 16, 17 in October.

Question: What do you like about the school?

Kyle and Caitlin: Kyle: I feel you are treated with respect here. Caitlin: It is a friendly school, we look after

each other.

Question: Would you change anything at the school?

Kyle and Caitlin:

Kyle: maybe a brighter coloured tie.

Caitlin: The playground needs more climbing frames; a shelter would be nice and could we have some skipping

ropes?

We also asked Kyle and Caitlin a few more questions. We found out that they became Depute and Head after

a school election and an interview. It was a bit scary but OK. Both Caitlin and Kyle can travel independently at

times. Kyle likes to see his pals in his spare time and Caitlin likes to go to The Yard and play with her cats.

They both love Art. Caitlin’s favourite cake is chocolate but Kyle has no preference. When they leave school

Kyle would like to go to college to train to work in childcare. Caitlin too would like to go to college. She would

like to become a hairdresser. They both hope to start a college link after Christmas.

Edinburgh Leisure

Edinburgh leisure were in school to offer taster sessions to all our

pupils. Everyone involved enjoyed the activities.
