Racquetball Interested in improving your game? Four quick recommendations:

Take lessons from a qualified teaching pro. ARFC’s Pro Instructor’s Derek D’Amour and Ron Freeman will help improve your stroke mechanics, positioning, shot selection, strategy & much more. Individual lessons & group lessons are available. Improve your speed and reaction time; strengthen your core, legs, back, shoulders, and arms. ARFC trainers are available to assist in achieving your goals!Purchase a quality racquet that matches your game and restring it regularly. An expensive racquet won’t make you a great player, but it will help increase your racquet speed and provide more explosive power from weights as low as 160 grams to 190 grams (ARFC offers very competitive pricing and an exceptional warranty). Put your ego aside and play with better players as often as possible to raise your level of play. Our weekly schedule provides days and times for all skill levels.

Calendar Thursday, March 12th for a “Neighborly Racquetball Doubles Challenge” with players from Johnson Ranch, Roseville! Sergio Ramirez and Richard Martin will host this exciting event at the Club. Play begins at 5:00 PM.Our monthly Racquetball Orientation will be held on Saturday, March 14th, for kids (1:00 to 2:30 PM) and adults (3:00 to 5:00 PM). Space is limited. Sign-ups are required at the First Impressions Desk. There will be no Jr. Racquetball March 4th..

The Water is Warm… We welcome all babies to ARFC’s Water Babies group swimming class. Water Babies meets every Tuesday from 10:00 to 10:30 AM. Register for the class at the First Impressions Desk.

March Swim Tip… Long arms close to the head and body are not the only aspect of an efficient backstroke. The body rotation is key. To practice, try this drill. Three right-arm-only backstroke pulls; three left-arm-only backstroke pulls; and three alternating regular backstroke arm pulls. Watch for an open hand all the way to entering the water. Keep your arms straight and close to the head. Feel the opposite shoulder rotate up towards the surface of the water as the opposite arms enters the water catching it and pushing it towards the feet.

The sun is out and it’s time to play some tennis. If you have always wanted to try tennis or have been wanting to up your game, now is the time.!

Now, I am a tennis diehard so I play no matter what the weather, but there is nothing like being outside and playing tennis on a beautiful day. Spring is a time for new beginnings and if you have ever wanted to learn tennis now is a great time to play this great game! At ARFC we are going to have more opportunities than ever. Fitness NewsARFC members… have you ever sat down and considered your personal fitness goals? Do you find yourself endlessly pursuing weight-loss goals only to yo-yo back to your starting weight? Do you keep chasing that strength goal and plateauing? Maybe you have a half-marathon on your to-do list but find yourself sticking with the comfortable 5k Fun Run. The truth is, every long journey begins with the first step. Here are some tips that may help with your progress!

Think short term AND long term. Short-term goals can be small, measurable and attainable milestones along the way to the long-term goals. For example, if you want to lose 20 pounds try to lose 2 pounds per week. With an average of 2 pounds per week, then your long-term goal should be reached within about 10 weeks. Each time you weigh in you will know if you need to make adjustments to stay on track toward your goal.

Keep a workout journal. If you plan to get stronger and more physically fit, understanding what muscles to train and when is essential. If you are working on a split routine (working one to two muscle groups intensively per training day), then you will want to know which muscles have been trained recently to ensure adequate recovery time before stimulating the muscle groups again. If you want to run a half-marathon, track your mile times and splits on shorter distances. From week-to-week you can aim to improve times and distances.

Track your diet. Understanding the proper amount of macro-nutrients that your body needs is essential for proper nutrition. If your body is in a surplus of carbs, fats, and proteins, then you can expect to gain additional weight. If your body is in a deficit of theses nutrients, then you can expect to lose weight. Find your daily caloric needs based on your body weight. Adjust the proper calories for each category within healthy ratios (30%fat/30% protein/40%carbs is a general guideline).

We hope these general tips will help with your personal fitness! Please ask one of our Certified Personal Trainers to assist you in setting and tracking your goals!

The Pilates Studio Pilates Reformer can really make a difference in your health without taking a toll on your body.

Develop a strong core, flat abdominals, and a strong back! Pilates Reformer exercise helps develop a strong core. The core consists of the deep abdominal muscles and the muscles closest to the spine. Control of the core is achieved by integrating the trunk, pelvis, and shoulder girdle.

Gain long, lean muscles and flexibility. Pilates Reformer—unlike traditional, strength-based workouts—elongates and strengthens, improving muscle elasticity and joint mobility. A body with balanced strength and flexibility is less likely to be injured.

Create an evenly conditioned body, improve sports performance, and prevent injuries. Pilates Reformer conditions the whole body, even the ankles and feet. No muscle group is over-trained or under-trained. Your entire musculature is evenly balanced and conditioned, helping you enjoy daily activities and sports with greater ease, better performance and less chance of injury. That’s why many professional sports teams and elite athletes use Pilates Reformer as a critical part of their training program.

By developing proper technique, you can re-train your body to move in safer, more efficient patterns of motion-invaluable for injury recovery, sports performance, good posture and optimal health.
