Will D. sailed competitively since 2007 when he was a freshman at Portland High School and he continued to sail at the University of New Hampshire in one of the toughest divisions in the nation. He has become comfortable in a number of boats including the 420, FJ, Laser, and Firefly. He also sailed Optimists while he was a young camper! While Captain of the UNH sail team, he enjoyed giving teammates advice and instruction whenever they needed it. Will has led chalk talks on starts, strategy, tactics, and rules situations. Will has continued practicing his teaching skills as a substitute teacher in area schools. Sailing is a passion for Will and he wants to share that with young sailors at AYC! Nailah B. loves working with children. She spent her junior year of Xavier College Preparatory shadowing a pediatric surgeon in the emergency rooms on weekends during late night shifts. She did ballet for 10 years and has been playing the piano for 15 years. Besides being a coxswain on her high school crew team for four years, she finished her senior year as the head coxswain. She continued her passion for crew as she is a coxswain on the Division 1 Men’s Crew Team at Drexel University. Go Dragons!! She spends her summers in Kennebunkport, Maine where she started sailing Optis in 2007 and then in 2010 began racing 420s for four summers. She is so excited to spend this summer teaching young sailors at AYC! Beth C. will return for her 3rd season at AYC. She has sailed both spring and fall seasons with the Southern Maine High School team for the past 4 years and is looking forward to sailing at the University of Vermont after she graduates from Kennebunk High School this spring!
