Introduction What is Engineering?

Role of an engineer.

Mechanical Engineering.

Page 3: MEEN Recruiting Presentation 08

What Mechanical Engineers Do!We design and build things….

Things that move, fly, fold, dance, soar!

Would you like to help build this?

MEs make XR3 Hybrid Cars• We have ordered the plans, we will start Fall 2009, watch for

updates!

Engineering is the profession in

which knowledge of mathematical

and natural sciences is applied to

develop ways to use the materials

and forces of nature economically

for the benefit of humanity.

What is engineering?

Page 7: MEEN Recruiting Presentation 08

Some of the major fields of engineering are Applied Sciences, Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical, Civil, Computer Sciences, Chemical, Natural Gas Engineering etc.

Page 8: MEEN Recruiting Presentation 08

Engineers apply the theories and principles of science and mathematics to research and develop economical solutions to technical problems.

Role of an engineer.

Engineers design, plan and supervise the construction of buildings, highways and transit systems.

Page 9: MEEN Recruiting Presentation 08

They develop and implement improved ways to extract , process and use raw materials.

They develop new materials that both improve the performance of products and take advantage of the advances in technology.

Page 10: MEEN Recruiting Presentation 08

Engineers in each branch have a basic knowledge and training that can be applied in many fields.

Engineers use computers to produce and analyze designs, to simulate and to test how a machine, structure or system operates.

What high school courses are important?

Mechanical Engineering at TAMUK.

Page 12: MEEN Recruiting Presentation 08

Mechanical engineering is one of the largest and broadest engineering field.

It would be hard to find an area or object in everyday life that was not in some way affected by a mechanical engineer.

Page 13: MEEN Recruiting Presentation 08

Mechanical engineering deals with power and the design of machines and processes used to generate power and apply it to useful purposes.

Mechanical engineers rely upon knowledge of matter and energy conversions, motion and forces obtained from computer simulations and experimental investigations of processes and systems.

Page 14: MEEN Recruiting Presentation 08

Mechanical engineers work in many industries and their work varies by industry and function.

Mechanical engineering is one of the broadest engineering disciplines.
