The recent BETT and ISE shows have certainly provided us with a showcase of some innovative

new products and technologies we can expect to feature prominently in 2011.

As well as the range of 3D projectors and screens we saw break through during 2010, there

is certainly now a move towards interactive technologies. Hitachi and Sanyo were two vendors

to showcase their interactive projector offerings at ISE in February.

Last year, 2,800 Interactive Projectors were sold in the market and we can expect that to rise

significantly in 2011. Interactive projection certainly makes presentations more interesting and

exciting, and will surely be a big hit in the education sector as teachers look to make their lessons

more engaging.

Touch Technology also featured prominently at the shows, Samsung are just one of the vendors

offering a full range of networkable touch screens – all linking back to the rise in popularity

of interactive technologies.

show me what’s NEW in projectionProjectors for any purposeNEC have launched there new multi purpose M Series projectors, and the U Series range of Ultra‑short throw units. See page 8

M‑SeriesThe M-Series boasts an impressive range of standard, wide and short throw models and brightness levels suitable for a wide range of classroom environments. All M-Series projectors incorporate new NEC innovations such as 75% AV Mute and longer lamp life support as well as advanced connectivity and functionality. The range also features an impressive Throw Ratio of 1.3-2.2:1.

U‑SeriesThe U-Series design concept means convenient space saving and elimination of glare and shadow, whilst still offering brightness as high as 3100 ANSI Lumens and a 2000:1 contrast ratio. The range also incorporates DLP Link technology, making them ideal for longer projection periods with the BrilliantColor system, DLP Link is 3D ready.

Interactive projection on any surfaceSanyo’s new interactive PLC-WL2503 short throw projector. With the use of an IR pointer and pen, the interactive technology enables writing and operation with the image projected on any surface, including screens, standard whiteboard surfaces and walls. The short throw lens creates an 80" diagonal image at 86cm.

Other new Sanyo models include the high contrast ratio PLC-XK2200, PLC-WK2500 and PLC-XK3010 units. As well as the PLC-HF10000 and PLC-HF15000 models.

The Shorter the betterHitachi has released its new Ultimate Short‑throw projector range, the CP‑A300NM, CP‑AW250NM, ED‑A220NM and iPJ‑AW250NM. The unique free‑shaped lens and mirror results in a throw distance ratio of less than 0.35:1, which means an 80 inch (2m) image can be achieved from only 50cm away from mirror to screen.

With improved picture quality, meaning images are uncompromised even at such a short throw distance with less than 0.5% distortion from corner to corner, the projectors are ideal for small rooms with limited space.

Launched at ISE in February, the iPJ-AW250NM is Hitachi’s innovative Interactive Ultimate Short-throw projector, integrating the Hitachi Starboard software and an interactive pen to deliver a complete interactive experience on any flat surface.

With a rich feature set that meets the specific interactive needs of both corporate and education users, the compact iPJ-AW250NM, like the other models in the Ultimate range, is easy to install, easy on the environment and designed to deliver outstanding performance in any setting.

show me what’s NEW in displayLG SupersignLG has expanded its range of Digital Signage players with the introduction of the NC2000 slot in PC module. Compatible with the new range of LG Commercial LFD that has the expansion slot (namely M3204C/M4214C & M4716C). The NC2000 has all the software functionality of the existing NC1000 media player, to enable professional looking templates to be created and distributed across your network in minutes. The SuperSign software has also been refreshed, adding more functionality such as support for MS Windows 7 servers, Zone alignment, increased Drag and Drop features and a new schedule export function.

Q2 2011 sees LG introduce its new range of LCD, LED and Plasma TV’s, with features such as Freeview HD (T2) on many models, and an increased choice of edge lit LED models. Perhaps pick of the bunch is the stunning Full LED Nano units (LW770T & LW990T), featuring Dynamic 3D, Trumotion 400Hz refresh and local spot dimming for a superior image, all in an incredibly thin unit. Realising that Active 3D can often be impractical for large numbers of people LG has also expanded its range of Passive 3D displays, requiring cinema style 3D glasses that do not require charging,

and are relatively inexpensive.

signagelive in 2011The latest release of signagelive for 2011 offers an array of great new features, all seamlessly updated automatically to your network.

The new Layout designer brings the power of Photoshop to designing

multi-zone layouts, including a free library of master backgrounds to make designing DS layouts simple and easy. The Cross Browser function means signagelive can now be managed using any Internet browser on any device, including Mac, Windows and Android tablet. Signagelive is also now available in 42 languages and will intelligently select the language the user has their PC or Mac configured to use, catering for a truly global customer base. Samsung update Network LFD’sBuilding on the success of the "N" series of Digital Signage network displays Samsung have further enhanced the range to incorporate a new Slot in Module (SIM) option.

Available on the MX-3 (not 32") and DX-3 series the new SIM offers a simple upgrade to a standard -3 display to enable customers to utilize the full power of the MagicInfo DS software. With a 40Gb hard drive and a 2.7 Dual Core Processor the unit is also compatible with a range of alternate software platforms (such as signagelive). 2011 will also see the award winning range of Commercial LED displays expanded to now offer long life 24/7 panels in ultra-thin LED format.

Using video to communicate with customers, shareholders, students, even suppliers is on the increase in a YouTube world, where the Internet puts 24/7 access to video in the hands of anyone with a connected computer or phone.

While camera phones and the Web have democratized video, the demands of professional applications like corporate communications or distance learning rise by an order of magnitude.

High-quality video must be captured, re-formatted for the web, organised and uploaded – all time-consuming, skilled and expensive processes.

Systems to automate these processes exist, but their high price tags and accompanying complexity keep them out of the reach of most business and public sector organisations.

New opportunitiesLifeSize Video Center brings automated streaming, storage and playback into the reach of a new set of users in terms of price and versatility, opening the door to diverse applications in the public and private sectors.

LifeSize Video Center is a single, rack-mount unit that sits with the rest of the network infrastructure and connects over that network to LifeSize 220 series endpoints, which it uses to capture video at the point of use and during a videoconferencing session.

As it receives video, LifeSize Video Center transcodes it to a format suitable for the web and streams it live or files it for future playback, on

demand, from any Web-enabled device, from a laptop to an iPhone.

A single LifeSize Video Center is capable of 20 concurrent recordings in HD, 1,000 simultaneous live streams and up to 450 simultaneous on-demand streams. Capacity increases exponentially with lower resolutions.

Security optionsRA Centurian – this universal security entrapment offers ball-joint articulation, 360˚ swivel, and over 24˚ tilt from the horizontal position, together with left, right and central lens apertures. The projector is mounted internally using 3 legs. Finished in grey as standard, RA Centurians are available in 4 sizes to accommodate the vast majority of projector models on the market.

All RA mounts are suitable for retro fit installation where a 50mm column has been used.

Screens for fixed installationsFor permanent installations, we offer both manually operated and motorised screens. Whether ceiling or wall-mounted, these versatile, stylish and durable screens are easily installed and will enhance any presentation environment.

Manually operated ‘pull-down’ screens are available in both standard and wide formats.

In addition to a standard drop-down screen, our motorised range offers a twin motor drop-down screen enabling the entire screen to be lowered and then retracted by up to 5 metres – ideal for use with very high ceilings, or in theatre settings where permanent positioning could compromise stage lighting.

Providing further flexibility, a floor-standing ‘rise-up’ screen offers the opportunity for concealed mounting within a display system – in front, for example, of a plasma or LCD screen, in a home cinema suite.

All our motorised products feature industry-leading ‘Somfy’ motors – guaranteed for two years – enabling screens to be lowered or raised and then retracted, smoothly, precisely and conveniently, via a remote IR controller.

Samsung Video Walls. Bringing BIG SCREEN impact to a wide range of corporate, educational and leisure venuesWith their super slim bezels, Samsung’s UX(n) series panels dramatically enhance and simplify the realisation of large format, high impact, video walls.

Available in 40" and 46" panels, their modular design enables display configurations to be optimised to suit both screen content and the installation environment. In addition, the system’s simple interlocking rear fixings enable multiple, fully-integrated displays to be assembled in a fraction of the time it takes to install a standard video wall.

MagicInfo content management software is included with the network versions of these units. Supporting the easy scheduling of content and the remote delivery of large scale MPEG or image files, MagicInfo enables screens to be configured as independent units or as tiled elements within the video wall. The unique MID base units provide a stable and secure base for freestanding screens.

Think thinTo complement the UX/N-2/3 screen range, Samsung has also enhanced its video wall solution with the UT/N Series of Ultra Thin 46" LCD displays. Medium has a team of over 100 specialist installation engineers available across the UK with expertise in the provision and installation of Video conferencing & AV systems, data networking & IT and Certified NICEIC Electrical Services.

Our commissioning services take on all aspects of projects involving Ethernet or IP, from pre-sales assessment to sign-off. Once the solution has been installed, we will ensure it is successfully deployed, from selecting the correct cabling infrastructure and installing necessary cabling and network hardware, to deploying Quality of service on the network and obtaining customer sign-off.

TrainingSelling a complex product requires skill and a new approach; by selling a complete solution with End User Training at the heart of the project you are ensuring your customer gets maximum return on their investment. A good ROI for your customer will definitely enhance the relationship they have with you meaning they will buy again.

Medium training services are designed with the end user in mind; the objective is to simplify the technology enabling your customer to fully understand the capabilities of the solution they will have complete confidence in their ability to use the Video Conferencing solution clearly appreciating the ease of use.

Our Approach is experiential, providing hands on interactive experience where the training is tailored to the needs of the End User, whether the IT Director or the Receptionist both will learn at a speed that suits them and using language and detail relevant to their existing knowledge levels.

Our training programmes are designed to help the users understand the solutions capabilities, enhancing their day to day role in the business and enabling them to fully utilize the solutions functionality. We provide both half and full day training solutions dependant on the customers’ needs. Support materials are left at site in both hard or soft copy and full training feedback will be provided once the training has been completed.

Extended SupportWhen a unit has failed in a videoconferencing system or your customer has reported a dead screen on their digital signage network, you need more than a courier-delivered replacement to fix the problem. That’s why Medium provides a range of Extended Support Contracts, ensuring you can resolve customer problems, quickly and effectively, anywhere in the UK. We remove the defective unit wherever its location, install a replacement, reconnect it to the network and ensure it is up and running to the customer’s satisfaction.

Extended Support Contracts present resellers and integrators with an excellent opportunity to earn incremental revenue by assuring customer peace of mind, which together help build and maintain good customer relationships, and gain a competitive edge.

APM1The Raw APM1 is a robust, fully-automated, wall mount for 37"-52" flat screens – a remote control provides comprehensive tilt, swivel and reach adjustment. When the power is switched on the screen can be positioned using directional arrow keys on the remote control, or by choosing one of the programmable presets, to ensure you always have the perfect view. When not in use, the device’s inbuilt memory will return the screen to the ‘home’ position – flush against the wall. The front plates’ universal design ensures that screens can be easily mounted.

PF1/FL1 Flat Wall MountsAmongst the most compatible and robust flat panel wall mounts currently available, the PF1 and FL1 are manufactured from high grade steel and feature a unique universal mounting ensuring a perfect fit and compatibility with most medium and large screens. Multiple fixing points on the back plate ensure a secure installation onto solid or stud walls while a twin locking mechanism provides safety and security for your display. Tilt versions (PT1/FT1) and extra-large versions (PF2/PT2) are also available.

TRS1A moveable trolley for flat screens featuring four unidirectional wheels with a locking function to secure the mount once positioned, the TRS1 is ideal for use in corporate or retail environments. A universal mounting system allows all screens in the specified size range to be fitted to the front plates, while a locking system keeps the screen secure but facilitates easy removal when required for storage and maintenance. Online sales toolsAt Medium we take a collaborative approach to business growth and business partnership. With this in mind, we recently put together a selection of marketing tools to help our resellers grow their business.

The reseller toolkit included a selection of e-shots and print ads designed for use in attracting and informing end users about a selection of products.

The toolkit included two Sanyo e-shots, one focusing on their 3D projector range and the other on the new PLC-WL2503 interactive projector. As well as this there were Samsung digital signage, and

LifeSize video conferencing e-shots. And finally print ads relating to the Casio XJ-A range and LG SuperSign.

We plan to make the reseller toolkits an ongoing release, focusing on key products – and we hope you’ll find them useful and productive.

New 40-screen video wall provides outstanding audio visual solution for state-of-the-art Health VillageThis brand new Health Village has five GP practices, plus many

other public facilities over three floors, and forms a key part of the

community regeneration programme within its local area.

The development features a large atrium space with glass above

and to the side, forming the main walkway through the building.

With such a huge public area available, the local Primary Care

Trust, which manages the Village, wanted to find a way to

maximise its potential benefits – and decided that a large

audio-visual solution could be just what was required. The PCT’s

Project Head explains further:

“There is an element of funding attached to all our new capital

projects which is known as ‘public realm’. This is simply defined in

terms of ‘enhancing the public environment’ and has traditionally

taken the form of artwork and sculpture. In fact, some specialist

and unique pieces have already been commissioned in one of our

other capital projects.

With the new Health Village, an idea emerged in respect of how

we could adopt the latest technologies into public realm, and

the extent to which these could be employed to present artwork,

messaging and other forms of media communications to the

community, as well as to showcase some of the skills and the

work that goes on in this thriving area.”
