WHY MEDITATION?
“I am not crying because I am going to die. I
am crying because I have never lived.
Carl Jung
“What can we gain by sailing to the moon if we are not to cross the abyss (an immeasurable depth) that separate us from ourselves?
Thomas Merton
WHAT IS MEDITATION?
Meditation is a tool to help solve problems and achieve goals in our daily lives.
Real meditation is getting absorbed in our most inner self. (You may call it God, Higher Self, Holy Spirit, etc.)
OUR GOALS
The goal of meditation is to
• “come home”• redeem that part of
ourselves that we have lost• become fuller human beings
OUR GOALS
We meditate in order to gain:
– serenity– peace– joy– greater efficiency in everyday life– an increase in our power to love– a deeper view of reality– a more complete self
WHICH METHOD OF MEDITATION IS GOOD?
There is no single way or the best way– We may use Mantra.– We may have guided
mediation.– We may have mindful
medication.– Or simply, sit in silence.

A FEW IMPORTANT POINTS A fence is placed around a young
tree to protect it. The same precautions must be observed in meditation. – First:
• Do not over do. Like watering your plants a lot, remember too much is not good.
– Second:• You need to practice:
– daily– same place – same time– same style
POSITION
• Different styles• Sitting on a chair• Crossed legs• Laying down• Walking
All are acceptable.
THREE STEPS
1. Concentration
2. Contemplation
3. Meditation

CONCENTRATION
“God miracles belong to those who can concentrate on one thing and limit themselves.”
Baal Shem Tov
Saint Theresa of Avila wrote, “I do not require of you to form great and serious considerations in your thinking, I require of you only to look.”
CONTEMPLATIONStage in between concentration and
meditation
– Partially within the senses – Partially above the senses– On the border of each– That is the experience in genuine
meditation– In other words, when one is so
concentrated (in) that he/she is not longer conscious of his/her body, that is the stage of contemplation.

CONTEMPLATION
It is the step between concentration and meditation.
Some one wrote: “If the mediator remains conscious of himself and that he is engaged in meditation, then he is not meditating, but is still in the preliminary stage, at the beginning of concentration.”
Hmm..Hmm.. Hmm..Hmm..
MEDITATION
Meditation is entirely above the senses.
In the state of meditation, the mediator, the object of his meditation, and the process of meditation have fallen away, and there is only one. And that one is higher self (God, Holy Spirit, Love).
