Tell students that many coats of arms have animals in their design ,and look at the examples together .Write the names of the animals the students can find on the board .Help out with the English names : kangaroo ,emu ,lion, owl ,horse ,bull ,bee ,ant .Ask students if there is an animal in the coat of arms of their own country.

For example ,a lion represents bravery .Go through the list of animals together and let students say what qualities they think the animals must have .Write their suggestions on the board.Students use the outline and design their own coat of arms in groups.In the end ask each group to hold one coat of arms and describe the design ,and the possible characteristics of the person who made it.
