The Brooke Dear Brooke Road Family, Greetings in Christ! Do you still feel the joy of Easter in your mind and heart? Jesus wants you to keep the joy of his resurrection and have peace always. And Jesus wants to talk with you and work with you for his mission. For this mission, he is continually calling your name. Can you hear the voice of Jesus calling you this Spring? What did Jesus bring into your life after his resurrection? It is the peace of Jesus, the power of the Holy Spirit. Can you hear the sounds of Spring in your backyard? Can you see the signs of Spring in trees and fields? We can hear the sound and feel the movement of the Holy Spirit. It is the gift of Jesus which he gave us after his resurrection. We should seek the sound of the Holy Spirit and use its power for the glory of God. After his resurrection, he came to his disciples and said, “Peace be with you.” Real peace comes from Jesus. Are you seeking the peace for your tomorrow and for your health? Is your heart fearful about your job, business, or health issues? Ask Jesus for his peace. Jesus will come to you and say, “Peace be with you.” Why does Jesus give peace to you? Because he wants you to become his messenger of peace. Jesus wants to send us into the world as peacemakers. Jesus wants to give his peace like a river to us. Are you in fear now? Just sit back and take a big breath and invite the peace of Jesus and feel the peace flying from heaven to you. Dwell in the heavenly peace. The resurrected Jesus will give you his comfort and victory. When the disciples were in fear and locked the door to protect themselves, Jesus came to them and breathed on them, “Receive the Holy Spirit.” Why did Jesus give the Holy Spirit with peace? Because peace will be activated through the work of the Holy Spirit. One of the great gifts of Jesus after his resurrection is the Holy Spirit. We have already received the Holy Spirit. The importance is how we use its power. The Holy Spirit is gentle and soft like a dove, but has power like fire when we use it. Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to us to be used. Let us do our best to use the fruits of the Holy Spirit and send out the peace of Jesus into this world. May God’s peace and the power of the Holy Spirit overflow during this month. Blessings, Pastor Chung Nam Kwak On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said, "Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you." And with that he breathed on them and said, "Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive anyone his sins, they are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven." John 20-19-23

Dear Brooke Road Family, Greetings in Christ!

Jesus will come to you and say, “Peace be with you.”

Why does Jesus give peace to you?

Blessings, Pastor Chung Nam Kwak

On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said, "Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you." And with that he breathed on them and said, "Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive anyone his sins, they are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven."

Medication Disposal – April 17 through June 5 Think Spring! It’s time for Spring cleaning, including your medicine cabinets! Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful will sponsor a collection of old and unneeded medications on June 11, 2016. Using this service prevents dispersal into the waste stream and waterways. Prescription containers should have your name and personal information blacked out, but the meds should be in the original containers with medication information intact. To help with this program, we will offer a box for drop-off of your medications. The box will be available on Sundays, beginning April 17 through June 5.

SUMMER BIBLE STUDY

June 5 – August 28

The 2016 summer Bible study will be similar to the one we used last summer. You will be able to attend on Sundays you’re in town because each lesson will be independent of the others. Plan now to join us at 9:00AM on Sunday mornings this summer. Here is a description of the lessons:

First Persons by Ronn Kerr, is a totally new concept in a study program for adults and older youth. Each of the thirteen weekly lessons evolves around a Biblically-accurate story of a person living in New Testament times who witnessed an event in the life of Jesus - a shepherd boy who was at the birth cave; a magi's apprentice; a wine merchant who saw the baptism of Jesus; the wife of a potter in Nazareth who saw Jesus get thrown out of the synagogue; a fisherman who witnessed the call of Peter, Andrew, James, and John; the wine steward at Cana; the sister of an adulterous woman; the centurian at the cross; and others.

Each story is Biblically-accurate, based on specific Scripture references for study, and filled with detail about life in First Century Palestine. Students not only learn about the particular event in the life of Jesus, they learn how the people of his time lived and played and worked and worshiped. And, most importantly, they become more deeply involved in study of the Biblical text than with traditional Bible studies.

Because the stories are powerful accounts filled with drama, humor and descriptive detail, students really enjoy reading and preparing for class sessions more than with traditional Biblical studies. In fact, in test classes, "I really enjoyed reading for the class!" was the most common response.

Apportionments

The Christian Education Committee is taking seriously your comments on the CAT survey for more adult education. We are trying to accomplish this in various ways. As a result of a joint meeting of the Christian Education Committee and Finance Committee, we have scheduled a guest preacher for Sunday, April 3. Rev. Brian Gilbert, an acknowledged expert who is very passionate about apportionments of the UMC, will be our guest speaker. Following worship, there will be a question and answer time open to all. Come and learn.

Fall Retreat

Start planning now to attend the fall retreat. It will begin Friday, October 21 at 7:30 PM and continue through Sunday, October 23 at 11:30 AM. The cost will be $149.00, which will cover everything, including meals, room, linens, etc. More details will be coming in the next few months. This retreat will be led by Joe and Joella Warner. We’ll also be requesting scholarship donors to help with cost for some who might not be able to afford it. Please contact either Joe or Joella.
