Meningitis

• Meningitis is an inflammation of the membranes that cover the brain and spinal cord.

• High fever, headache, and stiff neck are common symptoms of meningitis in anyone over the age of 2 years.

• These symptoms can develop over several hours, or they may take 1 to 2 days.

• There are two types of meningitis.

Bacterial meningitis

• Early diagnosis and treatment are very important.

• Bacterial meningitis can be treated with a number of effective antibiotics.

• some forms of bacterial meningitis are contagious.

• spread from person to person through the exchange of respiratory and throat secretions.

Viral meningitis

• Viral infections are the most common cause of meningitis

• Viral meningitis is serious but rarely fatal in people with normal immune systems.

• Different viruses that cause viral meningitis are spread in different ways.

Tetanus

• Tetanus (lockjaw) is a serious disease that causes painful tightening of the muscles, usually all over the body.

• Irritability, muscle cramps, sore muscles, weakness, or difficulty swallowing are commonly seen.

• Any wound that results in a break in the skin should be cleaned with soap and running water.

• You can get a Tetanus shot.

MRSA

• MRSA stands for methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus

• This organism is known for causing skin infections in addition to many other types of infections.

• Boils, abscesses, sty's and many more.

• First-line treatment for mild abscesses is incision and drainage.
