Description

There have been great advances in the diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal diseases. In the last year alone there have been more than 19,000 papers published on liver disease and over 4,000 papers published on inflammatory bowel disease. Basic treatment paradigms for common gastrointestinal

conditions such as chronic hepatitis C are in flux as new classes of pharmaceuticals become available and even diseases without prior therapies have been reappraised with new recommendations and consensus guidelines. To maintain their practices, gastroenterologists and surgeons may need to be up to date on topics such as the ideal approach to the difficult polypectomy or the stubborn biliary stricture, endoscopic management of Barrett’s esophagus, restorative proctocolectomy in ulcerative colitis, or exploration of total pancreatectomy with autoislet cell transplantation in patients with chronic pancreatitis – yet formal education in these areas is limited. It is hard for practicing physicians to obtain the knowledge needed to stay abreast of these new advances. The 34th Annual Medical and Surgical Gastroenterology Conference will provide a learning opportunity for participants in various GI disorders, including an assessment of new technologies, diagnostic and therapeutic options for inflammatory bowel disease, esophageal disorders, hepatopancreaticobiliary disease, liver disorders and other areas of clinical challenge. In addition, this year there will be a special session on colorectal cancer, interactive case presentations, and the opportunity to earn maintenance of certification (MOC) points.

Who Should AttendThis activity is intended for gastroenterologists, surgeons, internists, family practitioners, physicianassistants, nurse practitioners, nurses and other allied health professionals.

ObjectivesAfter attending this activity, the participant will demonstrate the ability to: • Describe updates and changing practice paradigms in viral hepatitis and liver transplantation.• Analyze and review the best practices for the management of motility disorders.• Identify and scrutinize the best approach to both medical and surgical foregut diseases. • Describe updates and paradigm changes in pancreaticobiliary diseases. • Outline medical and surgical approaches to colorectal polyps and cancer. • Identify and utilize the latest diagnostic and therapeutic techniques for the diagnosis and

management of inflammatory bowel disease.
