Trust Capabilities.
When it comes to diagnosing unknown medical conditions — breast cancer in particular — you want early detection on your side. At Women’s Imaging Center, we’ve established ourselves as an area leader in breast health and have made it the cornerstone of our practice. We offer today’s most advanced diagnostic tests that can detect breast cancer in its earliest stages. If breast cancer is detected early, before it spreads, there is a 96% chance of survival. Our leading-edge capabilities include:
Digital Mammography — Women’s Imaging Center is the first medical imaging practice north of Sacramento to offer this revolutionary screening exam. Digital mammograms allow our radiologists to zoom in on key images of your exam on a computer screen. This helps them pinpoint breast cancer or other abnormalities early, when treatment is less invasive and most effective. Also, there is less waiting time and fewer retakes with digital mammograms.
Computer-Aided Detection (CAD) for Mammography — For greater accuracy, we offer the state-of-the-art CADx Medical Systems’ “Second Look” system. CADx provides our radiologists with a computerized second review of mammograms that highlights areas of concern. CADx is invaluable because it increases breast cancer detection by as much as 20 percent.
Breast MRI — Breast MRI is a highly effectivemethod of screening for cancer if you have dense breast tissue or a family history of breast cancer. The breast MRI exam is also used to diagnose cancer of the breast first detected with mammography or physician exams. Finally, breast MRI can also play an important role in treatment planning prior to surgery for women with a known breast cancer, because it can reveal the true extent of the cancer.
Breast Ultrasound — Breast ultrasound is a primary screening tool for many women in their 20s and 30s. It can determine whether a lump or abnormality on a mammogram is a cyst or a solid tumor. For this exam, we use the state-of-the-art Sequoia™ 512 ultrasound unit from Siemens. Breast ultrasound is also used in place of mammography in pregnant women, since even small amounts of radiation may be harmful to the fetus.
MammoTest II Nonsurgical Breast Biopsy —Women’s Imaging Center was one of the first medical imaging centers in the United States to offer this leading-edge breast biopsy system. When abnormalities are found on a mammogram, the MammoTest II is used to produce a higher-resolution image of the suspicious area. If necessary, we will remove a tiny sample of abnormal breast tissue for analysis. This is a minimally invasive procedure that is performed on an outpatient basis. In addition, we also perform ultrasound-guided breast biopsy.
