With over 350 scientists, engineers and consultants, our Sensors & Information sector continues to invest in technologies that safeguard and protect in an uncertain world.
Countermeasures & Energetics
Chemring is the world leader in the design, development and manufacture of advanced expendable countermeasures and countermeasure suites for protecting air, sea and land platforms against the growing threat of guided missiles.
With our niche, world-class energetics systems we provide safety-critical components for missiles, aircraft and space launch systems.
Our high-reliability, single-use devices perform key functions including satellite deployment, aircrew egress and safety systems.

Within the electronic warfare sector we deliver complete Signal Intelligence (SIGINT) capabilities, from tactical mounted and dismounted systems through to strategic signals intelligence and monitoring.
SENSORS
Sensors in action
Our Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) sensors technology delivers high-performance, integrated detection capability for the Husky Mounted Detection System and our range of hand-held detectors.
Our biological detection and collection system samples air in buildings, hospitals, and enclosed public transport venues such as airports, train and subway stations.
Within the chemical and biological detection field we’re a provider and systems integrator of advanced point biological agent detectors and identifiers, and stand-off chemical threat detection systems.
In the field of Explosive Hazard Detection we are a world leader in the development and manufacture of combat proven Counter-IED and mine detection systems.
Our Ground Penetrating Radar and Wire Detection Array technology detects command wires and wiring systems used to remotely detonate or trigger buried explosives and other threats.

Research: innovation through research, invention and experimentation to solve complex real-world problems. For example, Roke researches and develops capability that secures commodity devices, operating systems and communications.
Design and engineering: software development and electronic engineering skills to design, develop, and deliver solutions. For example, wearable tech that provides tactical and dismounted situational awareness: provide commanders with information and knowledge of threats, along with other tools and sensors, to support decision making.

Broadening expertise in the supply chain
Roke has been chosen as a prime industrial partner on the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory’s (Dstl) SERAPIS framework. The six-year research framework will focus on new and mission critical capabilities for C4ISR1 communication systems and networks, space systems, synthetic environments and simulation technology to support human capability development.
One of the six capability areas and which Roke is leading, is focused on the development and demonstration of new and emerging Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition and Reconnaissance (ISTAR) ‘Collect’ technology and techniques into the wider defence and cross-government ISTAR enterprise. Leveraging its expertise in conventional and novel sensing technology, Position, Navigation and Timing (PNT), Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) and Human Intelligence (HUMINT) data and information collection capabilities, Roke will draw upon its experience of running large research programmes involving complex supply chains.

Our unique expertise and understanding of platform signatures, missile seekers and chemical formulations enables us to provide bespoke countermeasures solutions, including for the world’s most advanced aircraft flying today.
COUNTERMEASURES
We are the market leader in the global countermeasures market, providing cutting edge products to counter Infra-red (IR) and Radio-Frequency (RF) missile threats and are suitable for all military aircraft types in a range of formats.
We are also the world leader of naval countermeasures, with Anti-ship missile defence systems and trainable launchers.

We are the sole source provider of 55mm bespoke countermeasures for Typhoon, including MTV and Spectral flares.
We are the #1 global supplier of countermeasures, including sole-source on the F-35.

ENERGETICS
Our high reliability single-use devices are depended on to save lives and deliver mission success where failure is not an option.
With a focus on niche energetic devices, our products, services and experts assist customers including NASA to take rockets into orbit, provide demolition-stores solutions for militaries and security forces, and enable navies to ensure their missiles self-destruct.
Our Metron devices for commercial, aerospace and automotive industries are tiny but critical to safety – they deploy airbags in cars, initiate fire suppression sprinkler systems in buildings, and release oxygen masks in planes.
We provide mission critical devices for launch vehicles such as Atlas V and Delta IV, space exploration vehicles such as the Mars Rover, and satellites such as MUOS and Galileo.
