G321 MAIN TASK
INITIAL IDEAS
The purpose of this slideshow is to portray a detailed account of my initial
ideas for my music magazine.
I would like your feedback at the end of the presentation to see which one
you believe is best and why this is so I am to produce a professional looking
music magazine which people like you would wish to buy.
There are three genres; Hip-Hop, Rap and R&B
AIM & PURPOSE
IDEA ONE
GENRE Hip-Hop Magazine
TARGET
AUDIENCE
• The age range is about 13-19 years old.
• The gender ratio male to female will be 60:40
• The lifestyle of target audience will be; attending education with stressful situations
HOUSE STYLE • Bold headings, nothing overly fancy but not too “in your face.”
• The masthead will be created using graphity styles
LAYOUT • Typical magazine style
• The masthead at the top of the magazine with cover lines to one side and the sub-headings
breaking up text

IDEA TWO
GENRE • R&B
TARGET
AUDIENCE
• The age range for my target audience would be fro 13-18 years
• The gender ratio being 65:35 (female: male)

education
HOUSE
STYLE
• Colours; blacks, whites, yellow and gold’s.
• Non-Standard, colloquialised English Language to match the speech pattern of audience.
LAYOUT • Maximum of three cover-lines used on front page.
• One main picture used on every page, smaller pictures around it
• Mixed gender photo
FEATURES • New album review
• A day on tour with…
• Look back at best R&B number ones
NAME OF
MAGAZINE
• SMILE
DRESS-CODE • Either a respectable woman role model such as Beyoncé is seen to be a male such as the example,
however there are difficulties with this when attracting both genders.
FONTS FOR IDEA TWO
Should there a smiling
face afterwards?
IDEA THREE
GENRE • Rap
TARGET
AUDIENCE
• Age Range around 18+
• Gender ratio 65:35 (Male: Female)
• Lifestyle may be typically bums who walk around with headphones blearing after finishing
education, looking for jobs.
HOUSE STYLE • Bold writing which stands out, and is in your face even from far away
• Black and Red throughout
LAYOUT • Having an outline around the pictures, except for the main image.
• Picture comes in-front of text
• Bold writing which is capitalized
FEATURES • New artist released a single
• New collaboration, maybe something rare like Rap artist with Indie artist
• Someone wins an award
NAME OF
MAGAZINE
• RRT (RAP RHYME TIME)
DRESS-CODE • Tattoos showing, hats, bling, serious face, big group of people
FONTS FOR IDEA THREE
When asking my target audience what they thought about the three different ideas
i got the following feedback:
The Hip-Hop magazine was given brownie points for the male audience as there
are not many hip-hop magazines for males available, as well as the age range as it
fits the target audience for the hip-hop music industry. The target audience also
liked and I quote "the gangster" style of the magazine as it is stereotypical of the
genre, thus will appeal to the target audience. The main idea which the audience
seemed to like the most was the article about looking back on an artists career.
Although this was the case the target audience majorly disiked the stereotypical
magazine layout as they believe it will 'blend in' with the other magazines on
display. Also they believe that the front page should have a main image of a young
positive role model not some 'thug' that has just been arrested.
PEER FEEDBACK HIP-HOP
When asking my target audience what they thought about the three different ideas i got the following feedback:
The R&B magazine was disliked as the magazine title is aimed more at females than males thus may turn off male audiences and there should not be a male on the front, instead the audience believe it should be a respectable female musician
as this is more likely to attract both gender parties not just females, this is because if a guy were to see a male on the front page they are less likely to pick up the
magazine unless its for the fitness genre. The audience strongly disagreed with the look back on good R&B number ones in the past century as its not original and wouldn't be focusing on the main image at the front page as much as the other
story lines would, however they favoured the day on tour or album review as this would be a good focus throughout the magazine. The audience also enjoyed the
idea of the colour scheme as they believe this would match other R&B magazines available but has a slightly different edge on it.
PEER FEEDBACK – R&B
When asking my target audience what they thought about the three different ideas i got the following feedback:
The rap magazine was strongly downgraded when mentioning the target audiences lifestyle aim choices as not usually the stereotypical audience. They also disliked
the idea of an award received storyline as they do not believe enough information will be available to do a double page spread without t being repetitive and becoming slowly boring, however they did believe that the age range was
reasonable as the abuse and aggression involve in a majority of rap music. The idea of a new artist collaboration or a new album release was greatly admired
however it seemed after a vote that the new artist collaboration was favoured (this seemed to be favoured greatly overall.)
PEER FEEDBACK- RAP
I believe my overall decision is to do a Hip-Hop magazine with the double-
page spread idea of being a new artist collaboration or a look back on an
artists career as these were most favored, however I would change the age
range slightly from 13-19 years to 16-20years as it is a slightly smaller age
range and the music is more reasonable for this age range and the majority of
the previous age range would not be able to afford the magazine without help
from parents etc. The text that I use will have more of a graphity edge to it
and still aimed at males as it seems slightly more unique and appealing than
that of the other magazines available.
OVERALL DECISION
