Coinciding with World Routes, this editionis by far the biggest of the year with far-reaching interviews covering everypart of the world. An airline focus onSpanish national carrier Iberia will beincluded while a separate feature will seehow Spain’s aviation industry has copedwith millions of additional holidaymakersflocking to the country. Europe will besubject to a destination review while wewill also look at how low-cost, scheduledand charter airlines continue to stealeach others’ business ideas.

The pre-edition to World Routes is alwaysa popular one and with Barcelona set tohost, expect a four-page feature on thecity and the event. Barcelona is Europe’sbiggest cruise port, meaning a feature onhow airlines can work with cruisecompanies to mutual benefit will beincluded. In destinations expect arenewed focus on South America whileSpain will also be written about. As everthe number cruncher will also give thelow down on all the key statistics in achosen destination.

A run of Routes events will require a run of news, with Strategy Summits from both Routes Asia and Routes Europebeing featured. An airlines feature willlook at the trials and tribulations ofsmall, local airlines and how they helpthe most basic route development, whilewe will be keeping an eye on Britain’sdeparture from the EU and whether ornot formal negotiations have begun.Expect the Middle East to feature in thedestinations section.

Routes events will be a firm focus of thesecond edition with full coverage of theRoutes Americas Strategy Summit forthose who couldn’t make it. Elsewhere wewill be casting our eyes forward to RoutesEurope 2017, which will be hosted byBelfast in Northern Ireland. In between, wewill feature a destination focus on Africaas well as talking to France’s airports tofind out the issues they face. The hot topic will focus on joint ventures and jointbusinesses, and their impact on routedevelopment.

With Routes Americas 2017 taking place in Las Vegas, this edition will have a North American flavour. Expect atop American airline to be featured in thepaper while a destination feature willreview Canada’s aviation opportunitiesand issues. A second will see the spotlightturned on Australasia. The future eventssection will feature an in-depth interviewwith the organisers behind Routes Asia2017, taking place in Okinawa, while thehot topic will consider if we have seen the back of the Airbus A380.
