What would attract an audience?

Storyline- what happens in the film. Props- (iconography). For example cars,

guns and money. Men would be interested in watching a film with this kind of iconography.

Location- Where the film is set. Audience feedback- People who have

watched the film that says it entertaining. Also people may rate the film.

The cast- Famous actors and actresses.

Why is it hard to plan an opening scene?

An opening scene needs something to “hook” the audience. For example a mystery.

The opening scene needs to set a tone Also it needs to have sound, editing,

different camera shots and lighting.

This is an Extreme Wide Shot . It shows buildings in Manhattan which are in black and white. The film was set in 1979. In the background slow music is played which creates a calm atmosphere. No characters are shown at the start.

The film stays in black and white, as we start to see people walking around. This shows what everyday was like. This scene is a wide shot. We hear a narrator telling us about what is happening. In this part we see people selling fruit, cars, buildings and a busy city.

This is a mid shot that shows a man and a woman kissing, this shows that in the film there will be a sub- genre of romance. Women would watch this film because they like romantic films. The background is black and white with buildings in it.

In the start of the opening sequence we see to famous actor Brad Pitt and Angelia Jolie. They are sitting next to each other. Also they are a married couple at a counselling session. This is called a two shot. The target audience for this film could be both men and women because women may want to watch it because of Brad Pitt and men may want to watch it to see Angelia Jolie.

The opening sequence uses spilt scene. Here we see that Summit Entertainment is the production company. The background is black and plain. During the split scene it also shows who it is presented by and the title.

This is a close up with 3 characters in it. Iconography like guns are in this scene and sub- titles are used because some of the characters speak Spanish.

This opening sequence starts with close ups. Here we can see someone is getting an injections this indicates danger. We cant see anyone's face we only see hands. Fade out is used at the end of each scene.

In this scene we can see a helicopter in the sky the helicopter makes noises as it is about to land. The background is dark this suggests that something fatal could be happening like a war.

In this scene we can see somewhere that is deserted. We can see soldiers with guns, empty cars and a ambulance van. The background is dark, this suggests that a crisis is happening.

The first scene we see in the film is a dear in a forest. In the Background we can hear the main character of the film talking. This is a mid shot. The atmosphere is calm until the dear get chased, then the music starts going faster.
