Position: Assistant Superintendent (Programme Coordinator)
Foziah incorporated gardening into her programme for children aged 10 to 13
years old. She is a strong believer in the therapeutic value of gardening as the
activity has made her children calmer and less aggressive. She is
knowledgeable in growing herbs and ornamentals and good in plant
propagation.
Contributions
• In her spare time, Foziah also volunteers at another orphanage in Batam by helping in gardening and
painting murals
• She has assisted in the setting up of a community garden in Temasek JC
• Foziah is a strong supporter of CIB events such as Singapore Gardens Festival (SGF) 2014, Gardener’s
Cup 2014, Garden Hill Butterfly garden launch, SG50 CIB Gardens @ HortPark and Community

Yu Neng Primary School
Position: Teacher
Hashim is energetic and creative in learning new ways to promote plant
growth. He spearheaded the setting up of community gardens in Yu Neng
Primary School.
Contributions
• Hashim produces coffee compost by recycling spent coffee grounds, obtained from partnerships with
external stakeholders. This is generously shared with other community gardens
• He is currently collaborating with Sentosa Resort to learn vermi-composting (composting using various
worms such as red wigglers, white worms, and other earthworms) in order to enhance Yu Neng Primary
School’s gardens and their science curriculum

Position: Retiree
Judy has been an active gardener in the community garden at Jalan Limau
Manis Park since 2008. She has also assisted in the setting up of community
gardens at Bedok Terrace playground, St Anthony Cannosian Primary School
and Bedok View Secondary School.
Contributions
• Judy regularly gives talks at roadshows in Siglap constituency
• Organises community bonding events such as Siglap Ubin Day 2015 and creates greater awareness of
greenery.
• She has been a strong supporter of NParks events such as SGF2014, Gardeners’ Cup 2014, SG50 CIB

Mr Foo Jit Leang Age: 65

Position: Managing Director
Mr Foo started a vibrant butterfly garden in 2013 in Seletar Country Club,
which has a record number of butterfly sightings. He is an active member of
the Butterfly Circle and is involved in organising nature-related activities at
Chek Jawa. He helped set up the butterfly gardens of East Coast Town
Council, Metta Social Services, Chatsworth Kindergarten and Raffles Girls
School.
Contributions
• Shares his garden nursery’s biodiversity-attracting plants with other gardeners and also gives out
caterpillars to promote biodiversity
• Regularly conducts workshops and guided walks for free
• Has strong expertise in plant propagation
• Goes the extra mile to help and share information and resources on biodiversity plants.
• Actively promotes appreciation for nature by conducting guided walks and talks at Seletar Country Club

Thomson Sin Ming RC
Position: Retiree
Mr Har Kiet Leng has been an active garden leader for Thomson Sin Min RC
for more than four years. His open concept garden continues to stand out as a
model community garden in the central district. As a veteran in garden
furniture design and construction, he applies his expertise in wood and metal
work in the design of garden structures. He continually improves his
knowledge by visiting and sourcing from local and overseas nurseries in
Malaysia, Taiwan and China.
Contributions
• Mr Har Kiet Leng has conducted workshops, talks and demonstrations at Sengkang, West Zone A, C and
F RCs and Geylang CC.
• He was a Platinum winner in CIB Awards 2010, and also won an Award for Best New Community Garden.
• He was an active member of the Gardener’s Cup 2012 and 2014 and has conducted talks at Singapore
Garden Festival.
• He was also a member of the SG50 CIB Gardens @ HortPark under Central CDC.

Bukit Batok Zone 2
Position: Businesswoman
May is a garden leader with humility and is generous in sharing her
knowledge. She has been an active gardener with Bukit Batok Zone 2 garden
for four years. She played a significant role in the garden’s win of the
Excellence Award under Best New Garden Category.
Contributions
• May has organised numerous garden gatherings at Bukit Batok Zone 2’s ‘Cozy Garden’ which has
evolved to become a well loved gathering place for nearby residents.
• She has helped set up 10 community gardens across SW CDC and supports community planting in nature
ways.
• She actively promotes CIB and community gardening in various media platforms and is regularly featured
as a community spokesperson for CIB.
• She is currently one of the leaders of the SWCDC team which set up the SG50 CIB Gardens @ HortPark

Mdm Chan Kieu Age: 74
Years of involvement in gardening: Eight Years
Position: Retiree
Chan Kiew is a retiree with a farming background. She has been a
passionate and dedicated volunteer in Jurong Zone D CIB Gardens, Jurong
Primary and Blue Cross organisation for more than 10 years. She is a mentor
and role model to those who are new to gardening.
Contributions
• Mdm Chan hosts visitors to the community gardens under her care and readily shares the harvest with
them
• She conducts outreach at road shows for seniors as well as young children
• She is inspirational in spreading the love for gardening

Mdm Doris Yuen Kum Yeng Age: 55
Years of involvement in gardening: Six Years
Position: Administration Staff
Doris is a self-taught gardener who enjoys growing air plants. She established
an open community garden to attract residents in Woodlands Community
Centre in 2008. She has been a garden leader and a member of the Senior
Citizen’s Executive Committee for six years where she organises gardening
activities to promote active aging.
Contributions
• Mdm Doris conducted talks at Singapore Garden Festival in 2012 and 2014
• She has spearheaded and led a trip for 550 residents from Woodlands to SGF 2014
• She has assisted in Community Garden Training Series workshops and set up a new bonsai gardening
group
• She Is determined and passionate in spreading the joys of gardening and actively reaches out to senior
citizens and young alike

Mdm Lalitha Nair Age: 54
Years of involvement in gardening: Six Years
Woodlands Zone 2 RC
Position: Environmental Trainer
Lalitha is a passionate gardener who spearheaded the setting up of
community gardens in Sembawang GRC. She is an active gardener in
Woodlands Zone 2, which is home to 80 gardeners growing over 60 edibles
and herbs. She galvanises people and communities into taking up gardening
by highlighting the benefits of gardening. Lalitha also goes on overseas trips
to India and Bali and visits organic farms to learn growing techinques.
Contributions
• Lalitha shares gardening knowledge through Facebook and Woodlands Magazine’s Herb Column
• She had participated in SGF 2010 and 2012 and also helped set up SG50 CIB Gardens @ HortPark
• She engages parents support groups, tuition centres, and religious groups to teach them about plants
• She conducts hands-on sessions for schools to teach students about vegetables, herbs, spices and the
environment

Mr Sangaralingam Ramasamy Age: 65

Rivervale Court RC
Position: Assistant Engineer
Sangaralingam is an active gardener in Rivervale Court RC and he actively
promotes gardening to young families in the estate. As a former RC Chairman,
he played an influential role in the setting up of six community gardens in
Punggol East Constituency. He actively shares his knowledge through garden
tours.
Contributions
• He participated in SGF 2012 and 2014 as well as leads gardeners to visit Gardeners’ Day Out.
• He garnered support across grassroots to set up community gardens.
• He engages and tirelessly guides new community gardeners.
• He grows more than 20 types of edibles.
