represent particular social groups?

Desmond Dube

Roles

Both of the characters almost share an identical role to each other. They are both perceived as high status men with authority and dominance wanting to find out information to rescue or save something/someone. Will smith’s role in ‘Men In Black’ is purely to find and identify information on aliens in the world he is also part of secret non-government agency that polices and monitors extraterrestrial activity.

Similarly compared to our opening sequence Agent ken is part of a government detective group on finding lost information and victims about a GM product with only one person that knows most about the product they are capturing to find. Agent Ken’s role is to find the character who is already captured and interrogated by gang members. To emphasis Agent Kens superiority we included pros such as a glass of whiskey which is very expensive drink relating to the high status, also information sheets and a laptop to show the importance of the investigation . Moreover we tried to shoot the each scene in the correct setting to emphasise the whole investigation.

Appearance

Will smith is appeared as a detective in the Men In Black movie. His props shown in the picture which are a smart black and white suit as well as a gun portray his importance and status as a character in the movie as well as dominance supporting his role. The gun shown in this frame suggests how dangerous and important as a character he is also it is used as protection for himself when investigating to prevent himself from dying throughout the film.

Agent ken in our opening sequence is similarly portrayed as a detective. Agent Ken’s influence of appearance is from Will Smith, both characters share the same attire this also matches the status and importance of Agent Ken throughout the opening sequence towards the role he plays in the sequence. In the picture we can just about see the props included in the frame which is a glass of whisky this relates to characters job of how stressful and hard working the character is investigating and finding information on victims.

Appearance

In this scene the character getting interrogated know as the ‘Joker’ is portrayed very differently in contrast to our character being interrogated. Although the name of the character ‘Joker’ matches the props and attire of the individual. However, included in the frame of the picture are some similarities matching to our opening sequence such as the table and chair which are two main props linked towards interrogation. The joker is also seen to have no power just as the picture shows batman looking over him with authority and a heroic figure.

Our character known as the ‘Drug grower’ in the opening scene has no similarities to the Joker as he is topless, except the linked props to the scene which are the table and the chair as well as how he is portrayed with no power and status as he is belittled by the gang members.

Roles

Two of the characters both share similar roles for example they both get captured by another character in the movie and receive interrogation by them either being tortured, beaten or punished for information they have or as a consequence for what they have done. This suggests they belong in the same social group as either traitors or being treated low by their bosses. During the filming of this scene we emphasised the setting by first of all finding an area or place that links to the interrogation also playing around with the lighting to create tension and mystery.

Appearance

This character is part of an Asian gang, his face expressions suggests he is serious and angry with what he has to deal with, the camera angle is shot from below which portrays the character looking over people to show his worth and status. That characters clothing is dark and dual with a bandana over his neck this also gives the audience an idea that he is part of a gang.

In the picture frame we can see that the man in the suit has authority, high status and respect from other members in the group . His position at the table also gives us evidence of his leadership towards the others on the table as well as his hierarchy.

Roles

The roles of each characters show that they are the head of their gang and are at high point of their gang hierarchy . Both characters as gang leaders give leadership to the rest of the members on what to do, which gives evidence of their power and authority as individuals as compared to the rest of the group. Moreover, they are feared by people and looked up to as guiders.
