Media CW- Target Audience

Transcript of Media CW- Target Audience
- 1. Who would be the audience for your mediaproduct?
As a media product, there must be a target audience for the film to focus at. Here is an audience profile of our target audience
2. Gender: Male
Action movies attract generally a male audience, as it is
stereotypical for men to be drawn to violent films. Lets face it;
you wouldnt take your girlfriend to see Die Hard or Bad Boys unless
you werent there for the film.
3. Class/Race: Middle Class/Mixed races
As this film has a diverse cast (some White, some Asian), we can
assume that the film would appeal to a wider range of races than if
it were an all White cast. People from the Middle Class generally
have the luxury of being able to watch movies regularly, so they
would be the main audience.
4. Age: 15 40
Most male teenagers love a good adrenaline burst. So watching a
movie filled with action which is sure to get your heart pumping
would appeal to those who have not yet reached adulthood. This
interest in the action genre could continue into adulthood,
extending the age-range to into the 40+ zone. However, sometimes
adults prefer to slow down from then, which means we have lost
those aged 50+. Action films appeal to the younger generation,
making them the majority and the primary audience.
5. Interests: Comedy, Action, Gunfights, catchy quips, escapism,
Adrenaline burst
People who would watch this type of film wouldnt just go because
they could; there has to be something that appeals to their
interests. Be it their love for action, comedy, the idea of
escapism or the concept of all the action making your body brim
with adrenaline through the action scenes.
6. Income bracket: B C2, and E
This means that they range from middle class (B), to skilled
working class (C2).I have included E becausestudents may enjoy the
film.Because of what income brackets the target audience are in,
possible jobs include teachers, graphic designers, clerical
workers, electricians, plumbers, and those in E, students.
Usually, an action film targets the middle class at C
level. However, due to the injection of aspects of a comedy genre,
the bracket it expanded to include those who would enjoy the film
for its more intellectual and challenging material.
7. VAL type:
Actualisers Successful, wealthy but like something different
Experiencers rebellious and like challenges
Our product will appeal to these two VAL types because it covers
the type of audience we would be expecting from our target
audience. Young people are often stereotypically put as rebels
against the system, and middle class people are usually quite
successful, with enough wealth to afford the luxury of a trip to
the cinema.
8. Audience Targets
Niche- People who like something out of the ordinary, action and
comedy mixed together.
Mass- People who just want to watch a movie, possibly for escapism.
Also, possibly people who lack action in their lives and wish to
feel that adrenaline.
This person likes our media product because they have an interest
in action and comedy films, and they like guns (or possibly martial
arts) and the action (gunfire, CQC (Close Quarters Combat), or
chase scenes) which are two conventions of this genre of film.
Their income bracket means they are suited to this product as well
because firstly they can afford to see films quite often, and
students will want to see films to take a break.
9. Here we have an image oftwo ideal audience member for this type
of film. They are male, white, late teens, and probably have a
part-time job, which gives them disposable income.
