My Evaluation

Page 28: Media Course Work Better

8/9/2019 Media Course Work Better

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/media-course-work-better 28/32

Forms and Conventions

I have chose to design and make a media magazine called ‘PopTimes’. It has many of the same codes and conventions of normal musicmagazines. Big main image, Various colours making it stand out and many different strap lines have been used in my magazine to try and make it atypical pop magazine. On my contents page I have used 3 different pictures

all different to one another trying to expose as much of the magazine aspossible in one page. This is what many different magazines do to try andentice the reader to buy it without having to go through the whole magazine. Therefore I have tried to follow the conventions as much as I can to try andmake my magazine as successful as possible.

Page 29: Media Course Work Better

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/media-course-work-better 29/32

Photographs and Props

I had no problems finding a location to take my photographs. I useda professional studio to take my first batch of pictures and decided to useonly sun glasses as props. Also because it was a boy band shoot we chose todress up as a young boy band that would be appealing to younger girls forour target audience.

My second batch of photos I chose to use no props at all and justcasual clothing. I did choose to use a wide open area in my school for my second batch of photos because these pictures are of things that you shouldnot do on stage. This makes it look as real as possible to the reader. If I wasto do my pictures again I would have, taken my pictures slightly closer to thecamera because we wouldn’t have so much of the background in the picture.

Also I would have edited them slightly differently as well. I chose to makethe background completely white however I think it is to bright and doesn’tlook natural.

Page 30: Media Course Work Better

Target Audience

I have tried to aim my magazine at teenage girls between 13-16 yearsof age. I believe that this age group will nag at there parents, grandparentsect to buy them this magazine more than any other age or gender. One of the main things I have included in my magazine is an interview with a young and up and coming boy band. I think this is the main thing in my

magazine that will attract my target audience. Also lots of girls that agedream of being pop stars. So I have included 5 things not to do on stage asanother thing that girls will take note of so they don’t do it if there ever onstage.

Page 31: Media Course Work Better

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/media-course-work-better 31/32

Institutions and audiencefeedback

A institution like MTV would sell my magazine as they are a wellestablished company that distribute many forms of media products. They already produce a series of T.V programmes such as MTV Base ect. Thismeans they are well known in the music industry and are the perfectdistributor for my magazine. Which format has now been changes from anall music magazine to one that includes things like real life stores and otherthings as well.

I managed to get a lot of feedback off of both boys and girls of variousteenage ages. Audience feedback showed that the audience I have targeted was obvious and that the topics I have selected are suitable for my targetaudience. I have chosen a pale blue colour, but looking at my feedback Ishould have used more than one colour throughout the magazine because itlooks quite boring. Also maybe I should have used a colour which wouldappeal more to girls such as a pink this might have caught there eye more

than the blue. Overall I chose the right target audience for my magazine andaccording to my feedback it would have been a successful magazine if it wasactually released.

By making this product I have developed my Photoshop skills. Before I made this product I had only used Photoshop once or twice whenplaying around with pictures. I now know how to do a range of differentthings like completely removing the background from a picture, editingpictures and colours, putting effects on texts and incorporating shapes.

Therefore I am a lot more confident now editing pictures, using differentcolour schemes and designing layouts to magazines which will help me if Iever have to do a task like this in the future.
