Camera Research
In this presentation I am going to look at different camera shots and angles in existing films to see how it can have an effect on the audience. From this research I will be able to understand what types of shots I should do in my teaser trailer, poster and magazine front cover.
The Avengers – Long shot. Allows audience to understand the characters in their environment.
James Bong- High angle. Makes the character seem vulnerable, generating sympathy from the audience.
Numb – Focus shot. Makes audience focus on the character, allows audience to know that this character is the significant in this scene.
Pulp Fiction – Low angle. Makes the characters seem powerful to the audience.
Batman – Close-up. Allows audience to understand the characters emotions. Lots of close-ups is an indicator that the character is important.
Inspection – Canted angle. Connotations of ‘something not quite right’, that something has gone wrong.
Ted- Two shot. Typically used in Romantic comedies to highlight the love between the characters. In this case it shows the extent of their friendship to the audience.
Maze Runner – Birds eye view. Establishes setting to the audience. Allows audience to understand the scale of the environment.
Lucy – Extreme close-up. Creates tension for the audience and allows audience to understand how the character is feeling.
Saving Private Ryan – Point of view shot. Allows audience to understand what the character is going through first hand. Can create tension and fear.
