EXTENSION TASK 4

Web 2.0 is what people call new ways of showing or using things on the Internet.

Web 2.0 is considered beneficial because it is easy for people to publish their work, connect with other people, and share and exchange information.

To people who use the Internet, wikis and blogs are Web 2.0. Web 2.0 is mostly about user-generated and interactive content.

Before Web 2.0, Internet users could just read information on web pages. With Web 2.0, users can interact with the site and add information. In Web 1.0, the previous version, information was only written by the website author.

The Internet technology which is used for web 2.0 is not different from the old Internet technology, but the ways people use the web (the Internet) has changed.

Some people think that Wikipedia is a great example of "Web 2.0". Many other famous websites, such as Facebook and YouTube, are considered Web 2.0 Websites as they allow interactivity.

WHAT IS WEB.20?

Web 2.0 is the term given to describe a second generation of the World Wide Web that is focused on the ability for people to collaborate and share information online. Web 2.0 basically refers to the transition from static HTML Web pages to a more dynamic Web that is more organized and is based on serving Web applications to users.

WEB 2.0…

Other improved functionality of Web 2.0 includes open communication with an emphasis on Web-based communities of users, and more open sharing of information. Over time Web 2.0 has been used more as a marketing term than a computer-science-based term. Blogs, wikis, and Web services are all seen as components of Web 2.0.

Web 2.0 is allows it’s users to have freedom of expression. This importance should not be underestimated since historically, it has been evident that people with power have always tried to limit and control expression. However, in a more modern time, with the use of Web 2.0 users are able to freely express their views online for others to see.

I think that Web 2.0 generally goes beyond expression, and has also become an efficient tool for mobilization and collective action.

WEB 2.0 AND DEMOCRACY…

Page 5: Media 2.0 Research - Extension Task 4

Web 2.0 and it’s suite of technologies have dramatically lowered the interaction costs of two-way communication over the World Wide Web, which has democratized the production of information and applications across the internet. Lower communication costs have led to opportunities for more inclusive, collaborative, democratic online participation. As the costs of communicating online decreased, more people, in terms of million, decided that it was worth their while to participate in these communication networks. These people did not just communicate more, they started communicating in qualitatively different ways than before. As these millions found new media for expression and collaboration, they opened possibilities for a more inclusive, open, democratic society, possibilities which may or may not be realized.

As independent production company, the costs of communicating online decreasing comes significantly at our advantage. Due to this, being able to post our production online and advertise using below the line marketing allows for opportunities for more inclusive, collaborative, democratic online participation from our audience. This media democracy throughout our audience could subsequently create a hype amongst our target audience as a result of marketing strategies on social media.
