MECHANIZED TUNNELLING AND MICROTUNNELLING SHORT COURSE

A two-day concentrated course on “MECHANIZED TUNNELLING AND MICROTUNNNELLING” organized by Turkish Society for Infrastructure and Trenchless Technology (AKATED), with the support of the academics from Istanbul Technical University (ITU) and the International Society for Trenchless Technology (ISTT), will be held in Şanlıurfa on 4-5 October 2012.

In parallel with the growing need for infrastructure, the course aims to bring together all actors of the trenchless technology industry -including directors and technical staff of the public institutions and administrations that make high-budgeted investments and projects in the field of tunnelling and microtunnelling, and constructors, engineering companies, consultants, equipment manufacturers and suppliers- and to contribute to the sector for gaining a positive momentum.

The course presents quite a comprehensive content, covering mechanized tunnel boring and construction methods which are applicable to any geological condition from hard rock to soft ground in cities and rural areas, as well as the presentations of mega projects. This wide-ranging content will be delivered by well-known and highly professional experts, academics, constructors, public officers, equipment manufacturers and suppliers. Also, Prof. Levent Özdemir (Özdemir Engineering) from USA and Prof. Daniele Peila (Politechnic University of Turin – Board Member of ITA) will participate as the international trainers of the course.

The course is going to take place in Şanlıurfa, a city in the southeastern part of the country where a number of new tunnel projects are to be introduced in short term. As part of the course, a technical excursion is scheduled to Suruç Tunnel which is currently under construction as the world’s fifth biggest water delivery project (by State Hydraulic Affairs).
