WARNING CENTRE (TMA)

Tanzania Meteorological Agency is a focal point in the country

for issuing advisory and warnings on the following:

1.Weather and Climate related hazards

Drought/dry spell

Heavy rains/Floods

Strong Winds

Large waves

Tropical cyclone (TMA is in the process of formulating SOP. Currently it

uses the information from La Reunion)

2.Tsunami along the coast

3.Volcanic ash

Each component above has Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in the event of severe weather

THINGS TO CONSIDER BEFORE WARNING

• Monitoring of possibility of occurrence of any

severe weather event based on analysis from all

the available products including those from SWFPD

web portal with respect to agreed threshold values

is done by analyst on duty and the severe weather

desk.

• The PWS section is responsible for writing and

dissemination of weather forecasts including

warning.
