MECHANICAL ENGINEERS POWER A WORLD IN MOTION

Mechanical Engineering involves the design, manufacture or operation of any product or system that moves and uses or produces energy. If you are fascinated by aeroplanes and drones, curious about the nano world, excited about intelligent robots, passionate about finding sustainable solutions and energy, dream of building autonomous vehicles and spacecrafts, or just want to develop cool products, then Mechanical Engineering may be for you.

Mechanical Engineering is perhaps the most diverse and versatile of the engineering disciplines, with virtually every aspect of modern life being touched by it, from mobile phones and biomedical devices to aircrafts and power plants. The versatility of your ME training opens up a wide range of career possibilities, where you may design products, plan systems, or analyse and solve problems ranging from the deep sea to outer space.

Besides careers in high technology industries in engineering and manufacturing, our graduates develop valuable skills in creativity, numeracy, problem solving, data analysis and teamwork which are highly sought-after in non-engineering fields such as consulting, management, banking, and finance. Our graduates are also well-positioned to continue on with graduate studies to pursue academic and research careers.

Ken PehSenior Mechanical Engineer, Applied Materials Singapore

I supervised the student team working on our NUS Mechanical Engineering-Applied Materials Singapore Technology collaborative design project. It was immediately evident that the team is highly motivated and driven. Besides raising critical questions and engaging in discussions, the team demonstrated outstanding teamwork in coming up with a workable prototype from more than eight different concepts.

CAREER PROSPECTS

^ Team Bumblebee with their Autonomous

Underwater Vehicle

Learn advanced concepts of flight, structures and propulsion and control, and grab the opportunity to work on projects such as Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV), Wing-in-Ground Effect crafts (WIG), flapping-wing Micro Air Vehicles (MAV) and more.

See our curriculum structure, modules,

FAQs, freshmen activities and more!

HOW? You may apply for a specialisation at the point of application to NUS (for Aeronautical Engineering and Robotics) or later in Year 3 (for all 4 specialisations).

NOTE! Specialisations are optional, and you would not be disadvantaged if you choose not to specialise. Many of our top graduates do not specialise, yet build highly successful careers in various fields of engineering.

A multi-disciplinary specialisation drawing expertise from Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, and Artificial Intelligence, graduates will be well-placed to understand and exploit robotics technology for the benefits of mankind.

Learn about energy systems, traditional and alternative energy sources, energy conversion and storage, all within the broader context of energy management, sustainability and security. Applications include cooling in electronics to vehicles, buildings, desalination and power-plants, and even entire mega-cities.

Open the door to working in one of the hundreds of oil & gas equipment and oilfield service companies in the industry, amongst which are multiple top global companies which have established their APAC Headquarters in Singapore.
