Our approach

Environmental reports (EPBs, EIAs, ROMPPS, BAPs) are a requirement of the law, but have a significant importance to the strategic and operational objectives of our clients. As such we pride ourselves on providing a service that goes beyond compliance in identifying strategic and operational risks, then providing robust and innovative technical and management guidance on mitigation strategies and management plants to reduce risk and costs over the life-cycle of the project.

Our service extends across the life-cycle of the approval process and to the identification of environmental and social (health) risk involving four main stages:

Goal and Scope

Inventory

Impact Assessment

Interpretation and Management

Our considerations extend beyond the site of operations to include the off-site environmental and socio-economic impacts of the proposed project using methods typically practised in Strategic Environmental Assessment.

By so doing we provide our clients as well as the regulating authorities with a complete overview of the potential environmental, social and economic implications of the proposed project. We generate the peace of mind and assurance that all potentially negative and positive impacts have been considered and that suitable measures will be adopted to avoid and reduce harm and maximise the projects contribution to sustainable development.

MONITORING - ENVIRONMENTAL & SOCIAL IMPACTS

“What you can’t measure you can’t manage. Get it right first time to ensure that your monitoring is not just a regulatory hurdle but a real asset for day-to-day site and operations management”

Your Pains

Environmental monitoring of air and water quality and soil contamination is costly

Monitoring (social impacts) & environmental processes can be hard to manage if poorly designed

Measurements alone don’t provide the information you need to plan interventions

You have the data but what to do with it and how to present it effectively?

Your opportunity, Our solution

Minimize the cost of monitoring environmental data through optimal design

Develop control & responsibility processes to facilitate management

Analyse your data to identify critical issues for management teams

Develop quality reports that meet regulatory requirements

Examples

Don’t sample where you don’t need to! By identifying regions of low variability sampling can be reduced whilst maintaining the quality of the monitoring effort, but in others with extreme variability it could be necessary to sample more densely.

Monitoring data is not just for the regulators! By transforming your data into easy to understand maps and reports your environmental monitoring effort acts as a tool for managers to improve operations.

GeoQuest offers its expert services and knowledge of the mining sector to identify innovative solutions to your problems. Our environmental services help you to manage your projects, reduce

risks and maximize efficiency.

REMEDIATION PLANS using ENVIRONMENTAL GEOSTATISTICS

“geostatistics is useful not only for resource estimation but also for reducing the costs of monitoring and maximizing the information provided by each sample”

Your Pains

Environmental monitoring of air and water quality and soil contamination is costly

Measurements alone don’t provide the information you need to plan interventions

Your opportunity, Our solution

Minimize the cost of sampling through optimal site location

Maximize the information provided by each costly sample

Incorporate cheap and dense measurements to improve estimation

Generate reliable data inputs for remediation options assessment

Isolate and explore the uncertainty in your data and evaluate alternative strategies

Example

It may not be necessary to implement costly remediation across an entire site

Identify spatial patterns in pollution and define specific strategies for each zone

Evaluate costs and efficiency of alternative options that are robust to data uncertainty

GeoQuest offers its expert services and knowledge of the mining sector to identify innovative solutions to your problems. Our environmental services help you to manage your projects, reduce

risks and maximize efficiency.

AUDIT and ENHANCE SOCIAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL MONITORING

“Outdated methods, inefficient data management systems, weak control and responsibility are no excuse when faced with a regulatory audit ”

Your Pains

Social and environmental monitoring are not your area of expertise

Developing ‘in-house’ expertise is costly

Internal auditing systems can only go so far

Your project has evolved but your monitoring systems have stagnated

Regulators are preparing to audit your operations soon

Your opportunity, Our solution

Our team brings expertise from many other projects to your company

Targeted interventions prove less costly than maintaining a permanent staff

Independence means an honest appraisal of need for improvement

Regular auditing reduces costs of regulatory delays and reputational risk

Audit is the first step in enabling us to design enhanced systems that will provide you with better information with minimal extra cost

Example

Much of the data you collect may be redundant, our spatial data audit can provide statistical information to identify where monitoring is needed, where it can be reduced to save costs and where extra vital information is needed to meet regulatory and ‘best practice’ standards.

Decisions are only as good as the information they are based on. Auditing and subsequent redesign of control and responsibility systems ensure the uniform high quality of the information you need to avoid unnecessary risks

GeoQuest offers its expert services and knowledge of the mining sector to identify innovative solutions to your problems. Our environmental services help you to manage your projects, reduce

risks and maximize efficiency.
