ThesensorsarecommonlymountedwiththeZ-methodorV-method.WiththeZ-method,thetwosensorsareinstalledonoppositesidesofthepipe.Thismethodoffersashortersoundpath,thus,bettersignalstrength.Itisoftenusedforlargesizepipeswheresignalstrengthismoreimportant.WiththeV-method,thetwosensorsareinstalledonthesamesideofapipe.Thesoundpathisdoubled,thus,themeasurementaccuracyisbetter.Thismethodisoftenusedforsmallandmediumsizepipes.
TheRegalSeriesflowmetersarebasedonthetransit-timemeasurementprinciple,wherethesystemutilizesapairofsensors(AandBinfigurebelow)thatfunctionasbothanultrasonictransmitterandreceiver.Thesensorsareinstalledonthepipewall,clampedontheoutsideofthepipe.Theflowmeteroperatesbyalternatelytransmittingandreceivingacodedburstofsoundenergybetweenthetwosensorsandmeasuringthetransittimeittakesforsoundtotravelbetweenthetwosensors.Thedifferenceinthetransittimeisdirectlyrelatedtothevelocityoftheliquidinthepipe.Theflowrateisthencalculatedbasedonthe

Thereareseveraltypesoftransducersyoumaychooseforyourapplication.HSandHMtransducershavemountingrails,andareeasytoinstall(figuresaandb).Youmayneedaclampingstraptotiethemountingrailtothepipeifthemagnetontheraildoesnotworkwiththepipematerial.Allothertypesoftransducersdonothaveamountingrailanditisnecessarytoclampthemontothepipeusingthesuppliedclampingstrap(c).

Thesiteofthetransducerinstallationisveryimportant.Herearesomerecommendationsforselectingthecorrectsite:• Inordertoachievegoodaccuracy,itisrecommendedtohave15Dstraight-piperun:upstream10Danddownstream5D,whereDispipediameter.
• Ifthereisavalveupstreamandthevalveisnotfullyopen,itcouldgenerateadisturbancein theflow.Alongerupstreamstraightpiperunisrecommended.• Ifthereisapumpupstream,werecommendtohave25Dstraightpiperun.• Ifpipeisvertical,makesuretheflowisgoingupward,notdownward.Downwardflowcouldhaveairgapsiftheflowisinafreefall.
• Ifpipeishorizontal,makesurethepipeisfullandensurethetransducerisinstalledonthesideofthepipe,notonthetoporbottomofthepipe.
