Snow at Meadow Flat Public School

A very unusual thing has happened around our area recently. No, it wasn’t a massive flock of birds, no, the students didn’t try to take over, but it snowed! The snow started in the evening of Friday 9th, and only 13 people showed up. Some were sick, some didn’t go to school because it was snowing, and some, like me, didn’t show up because the road from our home to the school was closed. I don’t know what happened on Monday though, I stayed home. The next day, Tuesday, school was a bit mixed up, we spent most of the day practising for our performance in the Bilby classroom because the building that the Wollemi and Billabong classrooms are in wasn’t safe because of all the snow on the roof. The Platypus class did what they normally do, Wollemi and Billabong all stayed in the Bilby classroom practising, while the Bilby Class went down to the platypus classroom. On Wednesday, things were mostly normal except for the fact that some areas were out of bounds due to the slipperiness of the ground. Miss Ashworth had to go to a meeting, so Wollemi Class was split into the other 3 classes. It was a fun time, and we’re all having a great time still. I’m writing this on Wednesday, so I dunno what’ll happen on Thursday or Friday. To conclude, we all had a great time

The Primary classes are continuing with our ukulele lessons on a Friday morning with Miss Ashworth and Mrs Palmer. We have progressed from learning basic chords to learning to play more advanced songs. We are currently learning The Lion Sleeps Tonight which we will be performing for book week. By James , Year 5

National Plant a Tree Day was on the 2nd of August. Thank you to Lean and Bennet in Lithgow for donating trees to our school which we planted into our gardens. These trees will be beautiful in our garden when they are fully grown.

The chickens have settled back into school life afer having a holiday at the Willis's home over the school holidays. Thanks you to Ruby and Felix for looking after our chickens and finding a new home for our rooster.

Pete has set up an automatic watering system for the chickens, so they won't run low on water in the sum-mer months

This term we have had lots of people borrowing books from the Library. The school has purchased copies of the books that were nominated for awards by the Book Council. These books are now available to be borrowed. We are extremely excited about Book Week coming up in week 7 this term. This year’s theme is 'Reading is my Secret Power'. We have our usual Book Week Parade happening, the whole school will be perform-ing a song together as well as individual class perfor-mances too. Mrs Kelly is having a Book Fair in the Library where you can purchase books. We were lucky enough to have 2 books donated to us. These books are from the Growers series of Aus-tralia. They contain photographs showing life on the land in Australia.

Billabong class - Year 3 and 4

In preparation for Book Week, the Billabong Class have been working on writing about our favourtie books

My Favourite Book by Ellie Reen

My favourite book is "Polly and Buster" because they have been friends since they were little! The book takes me to another world and it makes me realise what friends are for.Polly and Buster go through some tough times in their lives, like Polly's father passes away and Bust-er gets bullied. Sometimes it feels like Polly and Buster are my best friends. I don't know how the author does it but it's amazing. In the back of the book it says that the author "Sal-ly" is the kind of person that remembers all of her childhood which I can understand because in the book it sounds like a kid wrote it.This books gives me strength to remember what friends are for.

My Favourite Bookby Tayah Webster

My favourite book "In your Face" because it is funny and it reminds me about the episodes of "No Good Nick".There's a weird family. Alex tries to act cool around all the boys. Justin is always getting hurt. He also likes to chase all the girlsThe family is similar to my family. Alex is like my sister because he tries to act cool around the boys and is always up to no good. Justin's like Jaxxon because he always gets hurt and is always chasing the girls. This book is a great book it will put a image in your head. It will make you laugh and laugh.

My Favourite Bookby Ollie Blofield

My favourite book is "Bad Guys". I like Bad Guys because it is funny and it is easy to read because the words are big. It gave me the power to laugh and made me more happy. It also made me forget when I was sick and hurt. I also have memories of my mum and dad helping me with hard words. Bad Guys is a book that will always bring back memories of me reading it to my mum and dad.

My Favourite Bookby Ali Constable-Kerr

My favourite book is "The Twits" becasue it helped me escape and forget about bad things happening around me. It is funny and it sort of put me in the character's shoes to see what it is like to be that person.I can identify with some of the characters as they are similar to people at school and home. On the pages with no pictures it was easy to imagine what is happening and what they look like be-cause of how descriptive it is

My Favourite BookBy Brae McManus

My favourite book thta I have ever read was "Sharon Keep your Hair on" because it sounded like my family and the mum and dad in the book have exactly the same names as my parents. The mum sounds alot like mine becasue she is loving and also is a bit rushed and likes giving dad things to do. Dad just goes with it and says OK. I could relate to this book because it was amazing.
