FIGHT CLUB
NEVER BACK DOWN

The action genre appeals to me through the fighting/battle scenes and props used in sub genres such as Greek mythology. The characters in these films also interest me as I enjoy seeing stars in different roles such as good or evil. For any genre of film the story line is the most important factor; if the story sounds boring I will not watch the film. I enjoy plot twists in films as it makes the story more interesting and surprising whilst trying to guess what's going to happen, predictable films leave nothing to the audiences imagination.
IntertextualityIs there any intertextuality with other films, of the same genre or other genres? does intertextuality encourage you to watch a film?I enjoy films with intertextuality from Greek mythology, 300 uses Sparta; a Greek city that focused on military excellence. The film incorporates the clothing, weapons, setting and even choice of language that would've been used in ancient Greece. A lot of films that use intertextuality from mythology become unrealistic when they use lots
Star Theory
• Do you watch a film because of who is in it? What makes you want to see a particular star in a particular role? Do you watch a film due the genre of film that a particular star is known for appearing in?
Frameworks of interpretation: • 3. Choose 3 film trailers
of your chosen genre. Use your genre analysis sheets (as used on Pulp Fiction/Rec/Skyfall) to analyse codes and conventions, narrative setting etc. Add these notes to your slides and illustrate with examples.
• Media literacy: How do you find out about films. Where do you get your information?
• Social networking• Web apps• Blogs• Magazines
• Reception Theory (Stuart Hall):
• How we react to films based upon our age, gender, ethnicity, social class
Active Spectatorship• Active spectatorship theory suggests each viewer
is different and many people in the audience will question the film and react to it in different ways to others, not just blindly accepting the messages.
• Active spectatorship also relates to the idea of
FANDOM where the audience for a particular film adopts it as their own e.g Star Wars
• Active spectatorship also takes into account pre and post viewing experiences, for example the brilliant marketing campaign for Prometheus (Trailers/viral marketing) attracted the film a wide audience, but the film failed to live up to expectations
Task 2
• When your presentation is finished, you use audio recorder and Soundcloud to record your podcast ‘Me & My Movies’ containing all of the information above.
