$he purpose of the course is to introduce the student to thefundamentals of solar thermal conversion for a variety ofapplications! $he students %ill apply &no%ledge they gained inearlier courses covering uid dynamics, thermodynamics, and
heat transfer to analy"e solar energy systems! 'n addition,speciali"ed topics such as optics and apparent solar motion %ill beintroduced! $he course %ill cover the solar resource, heat transferspeci(c to solar energy systems, the basics of popular solarcollectors, system calculations, and applications such as buildingheating and cooling )both passive and active*, %ater heating,
