CHECK ALL ELECTRONICS: Check all on-board electronics for proper
operation, especially power and motorized seat functions, heated
seats, and the power tailgate, if equipped.Bluetooth system, too.#1CHECK THE LIGHTS: Xenon headlights can be pricey to replace if
they're burned out, so double-check that both headlights on the
used MDX you're considering are in working order.#2CHECK THE BODY: Common rust spots on the MDX include the
underside of the doors, the edges of the tailgate, and the
upper, inner edges of the wheel-wells. Be on the lookout.#3LEAKS: For added confidence, have a mechanic check the used MDX
for signs of fluid leakage from the transmission, transaxle and
rear power unit.#4LISTEN TO THE AWD SYSTEM: While cornering sharply, and at a low
speed, note that a chattering or binding sensation from the rear
of the vehicle could indicate AWD problems with clutches or fluid.#5TIMING BELT: MDX's V6 engine uses a timing belt that requires
periodic replacement. Confirm that past replacements are up to date,
and when the next one is due, noting that it can be a pricey job.#6#7

ENGINE TICKING: Open the hood with the engine idling, and listen
for a loud, rhythmic ticking sound, which could be caused by a
rare but serious problem with the valvetrain.
VIBRATIONS: If you detect any unwelcomed vibrations at highway
speeds, possibly felt though the steering wheel, the likely
culprits are uneven tire wear or improperly-fastened wheel-nuts.
TORQUE CONVERTER: Though rare, some owners report torque converter
issues, which can be pricey. Hard shifting or slippage from the
transmission are key warning signs.
