kickoffits54thseasonofMDASummerCamponJune14.Thisyear,60youthfrom
EasternandCentralPennsylvania,SouthernNewJerseyandNorthernDelawareages6
17withneuromusculardisorderswillparticipateinaweeklongsummercampheldat
CampVarietyClubinWorcester,Pa.
MDASummerCampprogramsoffertheuniqueexperienceforyoungpeople
affectedwithoneofover40neuromusculardiseasestoenjoyjustbeingakid.Campis
anatmospherewherehavinganeuromusculardiseaseisthenormandconsistsofa
varietyofactivitiescreatedtodevelopfriendships,shareinterestsandbuildself
confidence.Itisthehighpointoftheyearforourkids,saidSarahFortunato,HealthCareServiceCoordinatorforMDA.
ThisyearsinvitationonlyVIPdayatSummerCampwillbeheldonWednesday,
June17.CamperswillhavetheopportunitytothanklocalsponsorsincludingACME,
Lowes,andHarleyDavidson.TheInternationalAssociationofFireFighters(IAFF)locals
willbecookinglunchanddinnerforcampersallweek.
MDASummerCampwouldnotbepossiblewithoutthesupportandcontinuous
participationfromourdonors.The$800costofsendingonechildtocampiscoveredby
generouscorporateandpublicdonationsthroughouttheyear.Thehardworkand
effortsputforthbyourlocalcommunitiesenablestheseadolescentstoexperiencea
widerangeofactivitiesspeciallydesignedforyoungpeoplewhoareaffectedbya
neuromusculardiseaseatnocosttotheirfamilies.MDAisanationalvoluntaryhealthagencyaimedatconquering43neuromusculardiseasesthat
affectoveramillionAmericans.MDAcombatsthesediseasesthroughprogramsofworldwideresearch,
comprehensivelocalservicesandfarreachingprofessionalandpublichealtheducation.MDAseeksno
governmentgrants,UnitedWayfundsorfeesfrompatientsortheirfamiliesenablingthosereceivingaid
fromtheorganizationtodosofreeofchargeFormoreinformationaboutMDAoritsprogramsvisit
