IN-PERSON SESSIONSJan 25 Military Lending The Department of Defense (DOD) issued a final rule amending the regulations concerning implementation of the Military Lending Act. The final rule amends the MLA regulation to expand protections provided to service members and their families when they obtain consumer credit, and addresses a wider range of credit products that fell outside of the scope of the DOD’s existing regulation. This session will address the rule changes that began affecting Credit Unions October 3, 2016. Participants will also review MLA compliance in light of the Interpretive Rule from DOD issued in August 2016.

Feb 16 Fraud & Cybersecurity Regulatory bodies (including the NCUA) now consider cybersecurity the top risk facing financial institutions. They expect credit union executives and management to be well-informed and aware of current issues, and make decisions with cybersecurity as a key component of their risk management processes. Learn the latest statistics from industry security reports and summary information from the FFIEC cyber security assessment pilot.

Mar 7 Robbery Prevention and Response Training The damage caused by a robbery can be much more than just the loss of money. Credit unions that have experienced a robbery have reported the effects on employee morale can last long after the actual event. There are many technological advances to help prevent robberies as well as improve responses to robberies, but a well prepared staff is still the best line of defense. This workshop will discuss new strategies to prevent robberies along with proven strategies to use during and after a robbery.

Mar 8 Emerging Payments Systems & Technology Change is coming to the payment landscape. Technologies such as EMV, along with payment systems such as PayPal and Near Field Communication (NFC) are becoming commonplace. The magnetic stripe version of credit, debit, and prepaid cards are quickly becoming obsolete. Credit unions must swap out member cards and upgrade ATMs and adapt to new data processing systems, fee programs, authorization methods and fraud prevention tools.

Mar 11 BSA for Volunteers Satisfy your annual BSA update training requirements. NCUA and state examiners are committed to enforcing the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), so complying with the regulation should be a top priority for every credit union. Get the information you need to ensure your training requirements have been met before your examiner walks in the door. Attendees will take a close look at the requirements of BSA and the Customer Identification Program (CIP); receive an overview of the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) and the PATRIOT Act; review policy requirements and examples of noncompliance; identify the penalties that regulators could potentially impose on your credit union; review CTR and SAR filing requirements and much more.

Mar 15 Marketing Compliance Learn how to create an efficient advertising review policy, what constitutes an advertisement, top advertising compliance risks, the basics of advertising disclosures and how to create a bulletproof advertising checklist. Topics include advertising, using the NCUA official logo for federally insured credit unions, Fair Housing Act, Truth in Savings, Truth in Lending, special rules for advertising sweepstakes and prizes, website advertising, promoting “free” products and the federal privacy notice.

Apr 6 Mortgage Compliance This program will cover a number of the hot topics, trends and critically important issues for credit unions as they seek to enhance their mortgage lending operations.

Apr 8 Supervisory Committee Duties & Responsibilities This “nuts and bolts” training program addresses key risk areas of credit unions and provides practical information and tools to achieve effective audit results. No nonsense, no fluff – just simple techniques and information to help you be a more productive Supervisory Committee member. This session will include discussions on Supervisory Committee infrastructure; roles and responsibilities including auditing and specific committee duties and powers, the committee’s role in monitoring the board of directors and other officials, recommended Supervisory Committee routine activities; collaborating with peers about how to get effective audit results, and a volunteer’s guide to financial statements.

Apr 19 BSA for Frontline Staff Satisfy your annual BSA update training requirements.

Apr 20 Third Party Due Diligence Every credit union entrusts its most sensitive member information to third-party vendors. This session will examine the regulatory requirements for vendor due diligence and the details of creating an effective vendor management program.

Apr 25 Consumer Lending Workshop for Frontline Staff This full-day workshop is designed for loan officers, member service representatives and all lending professionals looking for a refresher course. In this session you will learn lending’s critical essentials and best practices for lending success, how to successfully lend to higher-risk members, how to tailor your approach in the loan interview, a review of FICO scores, underwriting approaches, risk factors and much more.

Apr 26 Consumer Lending Workshop for Management The workshop will discuss loan department productivity and efficiency, loan product and rate design, loan delivery channels, loan department organization, loan policy provisions, the pros and cons of indirect lending, successful collections and sales culture development.

May 2 HR: Payroll and Wage Compliance Payroll and wage compliance is serious business for credit unions. Failure to comply with wage and hour laws can result in a credit union owing the employee back wages, liquidated damages, a waiting time penalty, and reasonable attorney and/or court fees, plus possible civil and criminal penalties from the federal or state government. Attend this session to learn about your responsibilities and the exposures, current hot topics, as well as best practices to ensure full compliance.

May 3 & 4 Compliance Workshop It costs a credit union far less to stay compliant with regulations than to foot the bill for the consequences of non-compliance. This two day workshop is designed for compliance officers and staff responsible for compliance within their specific areas, and those that are new to the compliance world. The workshop will cover a number of hot topics to include: Key Elements of an Effective Compliance program, Compliant Tracking and Management program, Key Components of a BSA/AML Compliance program, Mortgage Lending Compliance, Adverse Action Notice requirements, and CFPB’s Look at Debt Collection Practices.

Don’t allow your credit union to suffer because of ill preparedness in the area of compliance. Instead, invest in your credit union and staff to get the most current compliance training.

May 13 Head Teller Training New and experienced head tellers will learn practical skills to support branch goals, develop professionalism and productivity in their team, become an effective supervisor, manage time, delegate duties, and conduct effective coaching.

May 17 Advocacy 411 Get the scoop on what’s happening in the political realm that may impact your credit union. Engage in a roundtable discussion with our advocacy team regarding recent legislative developments on Capitol Hill and regulatory changes under the new Trump Administration. CECL arguably represents the most significant change to generally accepted accounting principles that impact credit unions during the past two decades. While the credit union industry does have a few years before CECL will take affect (2021), given the amount of time and effort that will be required to prepare for the implementation of CECL, it is highly recommended that credit unions consider their approach without delay. This session is intended to provide participants with an informed place to begin the process of implementing CECL.
