Counseling Corner

Dear Parents and Guardians: Letters for 10th grade conferences should be arriving in your home mailboxes. Please email [email protected] if you do not receive a letter regarding scheduling a conference with your student’s counselor. Be sure to include your student’s name in the email. Ninth graders attended presentations from counselors this week regarding selecting courses for the 10th grade year. Students will soon bring home information that includes a green sheet with a gold letter. The green sheet needs your signature regarding your student’s 10th grade course choices. The signed green sheet is to be returned to the school as soon as possible. Please email your student’s counselor with any questions you may have. The gold letter does not need to be returned. Please utilize your access to parent portal in order to stay updated concerning your student’s grades and attendance. Parents are so important and helpful in successfully in moving your students forward in their education!

Notes from Our Nurse…

Exclusion from School for Health Reasons

To protect all children from communicable illnesses, students infected with certain diseases are not allowed to come to school while they are contagious. Students should be symptom-free for 24 hours before returning to school. Contact me, if you are unsure whether or not your child should return to school. The guidelines below have been developed for the exclusion of students who have communicable or contagious diseases.

1. A student with any of the following symptoms will be excluded from school until such time as the student is free of symptoms, has been satisfactorily treated, or submits a signed physician’s statement that he/she is not contagious.

Temperature of 100 degrees or more. Student must be fever free for 24 hours, without medication, before re-entry.

Pain and/or swelling angle of jaw.

Undetermined rash over any part of the body.

Undiagnosed scaly patches on the body or scalp.

Nausea, vomiting or diarrhea. Student must be symptom free for 24 hours without medication for re-entry.

Red, draining eyes.

Intense itching with signs and symptoms of secondary infection.

Open, draining lesions.

Jaundice

2. The Principal or his/her designee, in collaboration with the school nurse, will notify parents that the student must be excluded for medical reasons.

3. It is the responsibility of the parent or guardian to transport the student from the school to his/her home. Please remember to update you information in the parent portal for emergency contacts.

4. For readmission, some diseases may require a statement from the student’s physician affirming that the student is not contagious.
