During the IB / PBS assembly, we also discussed the ?Global Kids? model all ten of our IB learner attributes; principled, ref lective, caring, knowledgeable, open-minded, thinker, inquirer, communicator, balanced and risk-taker. At our f inal IB / PBS assembly on May 20th, we will recognize our McKinley Global Kids.

As we close our f irst year as an IB Candidate School, we will have a visit on May 9th and 10th from Ms. Kathie Tourangeau, our consultant from the International Baccalaureate Organization. During the visit, Ms. Tourangeau will talk with administration and staff about the requirements for authorization and our progress toward meeting them.  She will also meet with a small group of parents to discuss the impact of the program implementation on students and the school community.  Thank you to Crystal Cicconetti f rom our wonderful McKinley PTO for organizing this group for us.  Throughout the two day visit, Ms.Tourangeau will also visit various classrooms to observe our students and staff during their daily routines. At the end of the consultation visit, our leadership team will meet to discuss and review our plan of action as we continue our candidacy phase next year.

This is an exciting time for McKinley Elementary. I am so proud of the accomplishments of our staff and students.  We look forward to a rewarding summer and an exciting start to year 2 as an IB Candidate School.

Posit ive Behavior Support Update

By: Michel le Nizen , Academic Coach

It is hard to believe that we only have a few short weeks of school left. May is always a time for ref lection on what we have accomplished, how far we have come, the next steps to continually ref ine our goals, reach new heights, and of course celebrate our successes!!

In April our McKinley students celebrated their successes exercising the four compass points of our McKinley Motto (Honesty, Dedication, Citizenship, and Responsibil ity) while embracing the IB learner attributes through their words and actions at our Fabulous Friday event where students could ?buy into?  an Ice Cream Social!! It was a hit and the students loved the treat.  It was nice to hear all the positive comments  students shared with each other and myself about the academic and behavioral goals they set for themselves throughout the year and how they have worked to obtain them.   A BIG THANK YOU to our McKinley PTO who supplied the ice cream and amenities for the event.  It was a huge success and the students loved it.

Throughout the month of May and the end of the year our four PBS compass points and all IB Learner Attributes will be revisited and reinforced.  For May, our Fabulous Friday Event will be a school wide dance party/ concert where we celebrate the culmination of a wonderful year of growth, hardwork, and learning!  Mrs. Polak will be our fabulous DJ for the event.  Students have already begun working hard to earn McBucks  through excellent behavior choices and are excited to hear which class will earn  the ?golden fork? and free entry into the McBuck events for working hard to be the most ?principled? class during lunch and recess.   Students are also working hard as a class to demonstrate ref lective decision making, responsibil ity, and ownership of choices in an effort to keep our number of off ice referrals low and to earn free entry into this end of the year event as well.

As I always like to conclude, I must express my continued appreciation and recognition for the power of parents as it is with you that we continually celebrate our students? successes! Thank you for all you have done this year to show support, stay actively involved, and continually communicate.  We are a team and I am confident we will continue to thrive  through collaborative efforts and support  of each other as we keep the best interest of our students at the forefront of all we do!   Thank you for all you do each day in helping our students soar to their fullest potential and being partners with us in our PBS and IB journey to continued success and excellence!

Our McKinley pride is always high and it is great to be a SKIPPER!!

PTO News by: Crystal Cicconetti, PTO President

As the school year winds down I want to take the time to thank all of our volunteers! The PTO survives solely on our volunteers and we couldn't have made this year so successful without you. My time as President will come to an end and in the last 2 years I have not only learned so much about volunteering but have learned so much about the Fairport community. I thank you all for your patience, ideas, and commitments to our never ending events and fund-raising! I can promise you next year will be even better! From my family to yours, I wish you a wonderful and safe summer!
