SCENARIO - MOBIFONE
Assuming that you are the intern of a local mobile retailer i.e. MobiFone (You should
to refer to your assignment 1 case study and relate what you have done on the
information, knowledge and decisions gathered.). You are to write accordingly to the
tasks assigned below:
Growth opportunities in the Vietnamese telecoms sector appear to be diminishing
due to market saturation and the dominance of state-owned entities in a highly
competitive landscape. Business Monitor International’s believes that operators
should re-evaluate their strategy and focus on trying to leverage on their existing
base of subscribers to generate strong revenues. Meanwhile, the government should
increase its efforts to promote a level playing field and boost ailing foreign investor
confidence.
Data from the General Statistics Office (GSO) indicate that the Vietnamese mobile
industry has been experiencing weak growth. We believe that the phenomenon will
persist given the high mobile penetration rate. By end-2016, we envisage 132.373mn
subscribers, representing a penetration rate of 141.9%. Meanwhile, we believe that
the slow growth in the mobile sector could explain the stability experienced by
Vietnam’s fixed-line market. We forecast the number of fixed-line subscribers to
gradually decline to 13.035mn in 2016, down from 14.725mn in 2012. Lastly, we
predict that there will be 5.938mn fixed broadband subscribers in Vietnam at the end
of 2016. The sector is expected to experience significant threat from mobile
broadband solutions.
Managers use MIS operations for all phases of management, including Planning,
Organizing, Directing and Controlling. MIS personnel must be technically qualified to
work with computer hardware, software, and computer information system. Earlier
these personnel were working as technicians, as the advancements in technology
led these technicians to develop the skills of system managers who manage other
people’s technical work, solve the business problems of the user and not just of the
data processing department. Thus with the help of MIS the functioning of an
organization became easier, flexible and systematic.
Globalization, in essence entails free trade (or free market) which implies free flow of
goods, services, capital and intellectual work force among different countries. In
effect, this implies there is a free flow of knowledge, skills, competences etc. The
large scale introduction and use of ICTs will enable MobiFone to expand the market
base and also help in building their competitive strength. The ICTs not only enables
the service providers to improve the quality of their service but also at the same time
service seekers will be benefited with the improved quality of services, lower prices,
faster delivery of service etc.

The information or the progressive application of ICTs to the input, storage,
processing, distribution and presentation of information is the obvious tool to build
not only their competitive advantage but also their abilities to satisfy the customers.
The ICTs have also become very powerful management tools to face the intensively
competitive environment in the services market.
