Lunyolo Tabitha is the second born of 3 children. Her father separated from her mother and both parents abandoned them after their father set the family house on fire leaving Tabitha and her siblings at the mercy of relatives and well-wishers. It is Tabitha’s cousin brother Mr. Peter Mangara who is also her guardian and is a peasant farmer in Manafwa district that has with the support of other relatives brought her up. Tabitha received a scholarship from FAWE Uganda and managed to study at Makerere College School where she sat for Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) examinations in History, Economics and Divinity and scored 15 points and was admitted to do a Bachelor of Development Studies at Makerere University.

Tabitha wants to become a development worker who will make contributiontowards the development of her community. In addition, she wants to engage in charity work where she will give support to the needy people.

Akinyi Clare Muga is the second born out of 5 children. She lost her mother when she was only 8 years old and since then it is her father Mr. Arthur Muga that has raised her and her siblings For Mr. Muga being both a father and mother has not been easy especially in raising five children single handedly.

Clare attended Trinity College Nabbingo for her Uganda Certificate of Education and Iganga Secondary School for Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education. She studied History, Economics and Literature. Clare loves writing, reading novels, and debating. She loves children and spending time with them rejuvenates her soul. She aspires to become a Child Psychologist and a motivational speaker so that she can impact positively on the lives of others. She says with the MCFSP, the sky is the limit for her.

Kiwala Hope is the sixth born out of eight children. Out of the five sibling before her, only one is a university graduate, the rest dropped out of school. This is not surprising because, Hope’s father is a drunkard and does not value his children’s education. Hope’s mother does her best to cater for the family’s immediate needs especially food, shelter and clothing. It is this state of affair that Hope focused on her education at Baptist High School Kitebi for her Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education where she studied History, Literature and Divinity and scored 17 points to achieve her first dream of joining Makerere University, the best University in East Africa.

Her second dream is to be a professional counselor in the next five years so that she can be able to extend psychosocial support to thousands of children and youth in Uganda. Without a doubt, she is grateful to The MasterCard Foundation through The MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program for the scholarship that will enable her dreams become a reality.

Namagambo Christine is the second born out of five children. In 2000, her parents separated and since then, she has been raised by a single parent- her mother. Her life and education journey has been filled with hardship and hopelessness, but this did no weigh her down, if anything, it provided her with the motivation to rise above all the hardships and challenges at every stage of her life and education right from her Priimary Leaving Education to Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education where she studied History, Entrepreneurship, Divinity and ICT and she scored 15 points. This score is likened to an early christmas gift especially for a rural girls whose previous score at Primary Leaving Education of 16 aggregates and Uganda Certificate of Education score of 45 aggregate was very poor

Christine always dreamt of obtaining undergraduate education and this dream came true when she was admitted for the Bachelor of Community Psychology at Makerere University. Her career aspiration is to become a Counselor and she plans to form a foundation that will be called ‘CHRISTINE- TINA’S FOUNDATION’. TINA meaning’ This Is New Africa which will cater for children between 4 to 13 years who are infected with HIV/AIDs, Orphans and the helpless. She wants to make a contribution towards a free HIV/AIDS generation.

Nyamwiza Shakira Evaline is the fifth born out of seven children. Her mother abandoned them when she divorced their father. Her father has raised them and done his best within his means to provide them a modest living and education. Shakira attended Boston High School Mpala for Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education where she studied History, Entrepreneurship, Divinity and ICT. Shakira was the head girl at Boston High School and was given a certificate of merit because of her excellent performance. She was also the Treasurer of Scripture Union and the founder of Interact Club at Boston High School. Her career goal is to attain a first class degree in Bachelor of Development Studies.

Her future plan is to elevate the standards of living of her family. Shakira wants to become a Politician. She believes that this will give her the opportunity to influence decisions on the development of her community. She is particularly passionate about empowering women of her community through political participation.

Anenocan Lisa is the third and last born in the family. She is from Gulu district that is located in the northern region of Uganda. Due to the insurgency in the north and the abduction of her two siblings by the Lords Resistance Army (LRA) rebels, Lisa’s father made a decision to transfer her from the school in Gulu to Kampala. She attended St. Mary’s Secondary School Kitende where she sat for Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education offering History, Economics, Literature and Sub-Math. She scored a total of 18 points.

When Lisa was in primary school, she got the opportunity to present in Mega FM, a famous radio station in Gulu district.. This was a turning point in her life and from that point, she knew exactly what she wanted to become in life – a Journalist. She believes that the MCF Scholars Program at Makerere University has given her the opportunity to pursue her career dream. Lisa would love to set up a radio station because for development to occur in any community there is need for people to be informed.

Akello Agatha is the first born out of three children in the family. For Agatha her story is one of blessings despite the financial difficulties in the family. Agatha is from Kangole Village in Napak district, fortunately in Kangole Village, there is a Convent of the Comboni Sisters where she used to slash and clean. The Comboni Sisters were touched by Agatha’s good deeds and they offered to support her ordinary level education. Fortunately, Father Aldo sponsored her at Wanyange Girls where she sat for Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education examinations in History, Economics, Divinity and Sub-math and she scored 14 points.

While at secondary school, Agatha was the Chairperson of the Debating Club and the Minister for Women Affairs. During her senior six vacation, she volunteered with Uganda Red Cross Society. She was also able to attend a workshop organized by Uganda Change Agent Association on health, education and community socialization. Her career dream is to become a Social worker and also a Business Woman because this will enable her to work with the community and as well as make contribution towards economic development.

Dukuze Monica is the third born out of four children in the family. Her father is a primary school teacher and even in the face of financial difficulties of raising school fees, Monica’s father did not deny them education. He supplemented his income with farming and liquidated most of the family assets to take his children to school. Monica was on the cue waiting for her older siblings to complete school before her father supports her university education.

Monica attended St. Gertrude Girls Vocational School Mutolere in Kisoro District for both Uganda Certificate of Education and Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education. She was on the Uganda Universal Secondary School Program. She studied History, Literature, Divinity and ICT and scored 15 points. Monica has been admitted for the Bachelor of Ethics and Human Rights at Makerere University. After her undergraduate studies, she wants to proceed for a Masters Degree in Human Rights and become a Human Rights Advocate and a voice for the voiceless in her Community.

Mukyala Magret is the fourth born out of seven children. Magret’s education has been a concerted effort from her family, but her mother perhaps takes the most credit because she managed to convince the school authorities to accept a barter trade: where she would make bricks and collect firewood in exchange for school fees for her daughter who attended St. Kalemba Secondary School in Kayunga District where she sat for Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education examinations in History, Economics and Literature and scored 17 points.

Magret was a member of the Debating and Writers Club and Junior Achievers Club. Her role model is Hon Rebecca Kadaga Alitwala, the Speaker of the Uganda Parliament because she has held a number of high profile positions and played a leading role in women’s empowerment activities at national and international levels. Magret wants to be a Development Worker, working with Community Based Organizations. She wants to be a role model for the girls in her community.

Akiteng Janet is the last born in the family of seven children. Out of the seven children only 3 children her inclusive have managed to come this far in education. Her brother Arua Janan aged 26 is at Mbarara University of Science and Technology on a State House Scholarship, her sister Guto Marther is at Uganda College of Commerce, Kabale on government scholarship and she has been admitted for the Bachelor of Business Administration with support from The MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program. Janet attended Pallisa Secondary School where she sat for the Uganda Certificate of Education and joined Rock High School in Tororo District for Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education. she studied History, Economics, Divinity and Entrepreneurship and scored 21 points in 2012. Because of financial difficulties, her father was unable to even raise funds to buy the PUJAB Forms and that is how she missed out onf government scholarship. But this did not make her lose hope. She sat out of school for a whole year making tea in a tea shop in Pallisa trading centre and it was during this period that she came across a poster advertising The MCFSP.

Janet’s career goal is to become a successful entrepreneur/business woman and use part of her wealth to advocate and support the education of the girl-child.

Banaga Mackline is the first born out of six children. Her father is a taxi driver and he has sacrificed to educate his children in good schools. A senior drop out, Mackline’s father is determined to educate his children and he is fortunate that his children are bright and this explains why Mackline received a scholarship at Namirembe Hillside High school where she sat for Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education examinations in Physics, Economics and Mathematics and scored 16 points.

Mackline has been admitted for the Bachelor of Quantitative Economics and is looking at a career as an Economic Planner with the United Nations.

Nankinga Stella Maliza is the second born out of four children, but she considers herself the third born because her father is looking after two other cousins, one of whom is older than her and she consider them as her siblings. Because of the number of school going children the burden of school fees is very high for Stella’s father but he is made every effort to see his children and other dependents attend school. Stella attended Trinity College Nabbingo where she sat for Uganda Advanced Certificated of Education examinations in History, Economics, Entrepreneurship and ICT and scored 16 points.

She has been admitted for the Bachelor of Business Administration at Makerere University. Stella wants to become an International Entrepreneur.

Ahumuza Dinah is the third born out of four children. Her father was a Pilot Trainee with the Uganda Peoples’s Defence Forces but he is deceased and Dinah and her three siblings are being raised by their mother as a single parent. The family is experiencing financial challenges especially for the basic needs, but Dinah’s mother is very disciplined and hardworking; despite her level of education she has managed to educate Dinah who went to Nabisunsa Girl’s Secondary School in Kampala for both Uganda Certificate of Education and Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education. She studied Physics, Economics and Mathematics and scored 15 points.

Dinah’s career goal is to become a successful auditor, globally competitive for national and continental development. Dinah has volunteered to mentor the secondary school girls around her community.

Nabulega Sandra is the last born in a family of four children. Her mother died when she was only three years old, but this was just the beginning of tragedy in their house hold, her father also passed on when she was in primary five. A few years down the road her uncle who was also their guardian died and life was unbearable. Sandra’s sister Namayalo Sherinah was forced to drop out of school and care for her siblings.

Sandra attended Kisozi High School for ordinary level and St Marks College Namagoma for advanced level where she sat for Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education examinations in Physics, Economics and Mathematics in 2013 and scored 15 points. She has been admitted for the Bachelor of Statistics at Makerere University. Sandra wants to work hard at the university such that she can be a role model to the girls and boys in her community. She wants to become a Statistician and her dream is to work with Uganda Revenue Authority. In addition, she wants to engage in charity work where she will provide financial support to the youth for their education.

Buteme Dorah is the first born out of five children. Her father was the main bread winner of the family until he lost his job. Currently, it is her mother who is the bread winner and caring for the entire family needs, fortunately, they do not have to worry about rent because there father built a permanent house on a three acre plot where they grow some crops for food.

Dorah attended Our Lady of Good Counsel, Gayaza for Uganda Certificate of Education and joined Mengo Secondary School for Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education. She studied Physics, Economics and Mathematics and scored 15 points. She wants to become a Planner and work with Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development. Dorah is inspired by Rebecca Kadagga, the Speaker of Uganda Parliament at national level and Oprah Winfrey at the international level.

Nabukenya Jackline is the first born out of three children in the family. Her parents separated in 1996 before she even started her Nursery School. Because she was still young, Jackline lived with her mother, unfortunately the mothers illness necessitated that Jackline had to live with her father. Even the father became sick; he was diagnosed with HIV/AIDs and he passed on in 2001. Jackline dropped out of school for a while because there was no one to pay her school fees, the situation was not made any better as she was taken to leave with her grandmother in Nsaggu Village in Wakiso district. Fortunately, in 2002, her mother came back after identifying an organization that supported her primary leaving education. From this point forward, Jackline has been supported by her family and scholarship organizations where she was able to attend Buloba High School in Wakiso District for Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education. She was sponsored by Mitchell HEYWARD, a charity organization in Uganda. She studied Mathematics, Economics and Geography and she scored 15 points.

Jackline is admitted for Bachelor of Business Administration and she wants to specialize in Accounting and Finance. she wants to work with Bank of Uganda. After school, Jackline wants to improve the standard of living of her family and engage in charity work, providing support to the needy in her community and beyond.

Biwaga Agnes is the last born in the family of six children. Her parents are struggling to educate Agnes and the extended family members (nine cousins) who live with them. Although, they live in a family owned house, it is situated in the swampy area of Kalerwe, the house is on a 30X20 plot accommodating about 15 family members. Despite, this challenge, Agne’s , father managed to educate her. She attended Gayaza Road Secondary School where she sat for Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education examinations in Physics, Economics and Mathematics in 2013 and scored 15 points. She has been admitted to Makerere University for Bachelor of Statistics and her career goal is to become a great Statistician and work with the United Nations.

Ayikoru Robinah is the first born out of two children. Both parents are deceased and it her grand father Mr. John Odonga who is caring for her and her sister. But her aunt is also contributing to their education and welfare. Robinah went to Talent’s College Mukono where she sat for Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education examinations in Mathematics, Economics and Geography and scored 14 points. She received a Scholarship for her secondary school from MIPA. While in her secondary school, she served as the Treasurer, Scripture Union and Entertainments Prefect. During her senior six vacations, she volunteered to work with her aunt in making snacks and jewelry. Her role model is Joyce Meyer, the charismatic Christian author and speaker because of the way she communicates to her congregation. Robinah wants to become a Business Woman and own a successful business. She wants to specialize in fashion and design for children. In addition, she wants to contribute to charitable organizations and participate in supporting the street children in Uganda.

Aanyu Frances is the first born in a family of three children. She went to Tororo Girls Secondary School where she completed Uganda Certificate of Education and joined Iganga Girls Secondary School for her Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education and scored 17 points. She studied Literature, Economics and Divinity. While at secondary school, she participated in music, dance and drama. Ochieng Geofry Ariong is the second born out of nine children in the family. His father is a Security Guard earning a meagre salary and yet he has nine children to care for. Geofry is from Tororo district and his education journey has been extremely difficult because his father could not afford school fees on time. At 22 years, he is supposed to have graduated from the University but yet he is a freshman. This lends credence to how he had to sit at home as his father figured out where to get the children school fees, fortunately for him because of his excellent academic performance, he received a bursary from East High School where he sat for his Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education offering History, Economics, Divinity and Sub-math and scored 17 points.

While at East High School, he was appointed the Chairperson of Christian Community, Head of Scripture Union and Chairperson of the History. During his senior six vacation, he volunteered to work with the Youth Patron Grace Mayanja in running her business as a cashier, as well as helping one of the church members in running her mobile money shop. Nankinga Brenda is the second born out of five children. Brenda’s father had a successful business and rental units and he easily afforded to pay for his children’s education. Unfortunately his failure to pay a bank loan led to collapse of the family business and sale of the rental units to recover money he owed the Bank. The collapse of the family business and losing the rental units led Brenda’s father into depression and mental instability to date. Mamer David is a refugee currently living in Uganda in Zaipi camp located in Adjumani District. He comes from Jonglei State, in Bor about 50km away from the capital city of Juba, South Sudan. He has been supported throughout his education by compassionate people. Mulumba Matia is the six born of eight. After the death of both parents, he started living with his grandmother. He went to primary school on the Universal Primary Education (UPE) and was on scholarship throughout his secondary education. Matia did casual work during holidays to raise funds for scholastic material and upkeep. He went to St. Charles Secondary School in Ntungamo District where he sat for Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education examinations in Mathematics, Agriculture and Economics and obtained 14 points. While at secondary school, he participated in debates and sports. In 2012, when there was an outbreak of Ebola epidemic in Kibale District, Matia volunteered under the Uganda Red Cross to sensitize the population and he provided his labor to build temporary structure for the Ebola victims. Namuyanja Sarah is the second born of three in a family of three children. The parents are market vendors in Masanafu, Kampala city. Although her parents did not attend school, they worked hard in addition to getting loans in order to clear school fees. Being the first born of eight with parents who are peasant farmers in Namayingo District, it would have been difficult for Omondi Joflet to join the University despite the fact that he had obtained good grades. Joflet studied Physics, Chemistry and Biology at Bukoyo Secondary School in Iganga District and obtained 15 points. While at secondary school, he played football for the school team. His career goal is to become a Laboratory Technologist. He developed his inspiration from what happened to him when he had gone to the nearest health center II to test for his blood group, HIV status and hepatitis B. Mirugwe experienced difficulty in raising fees since the death of his father in 2004. Although his mother is illiterate, she believed that the only way of breaking the poverty cycle was through education. She was only able to provide Alex with Scholastic materials.
