A few years ago, our family started attending a church where we felt a sense of belonging

and were part of a family. A true family, spiritual family! It was the first time we had ever experi-enced this, and it was the perfect place to pre-pare us for what God was bringing us to. Today, our family finds ourselves 13 weeks into our cur-rent adventure. An adventure that meant follow-ing God in obedience and moving a family of 7 to Guatemala to serve at Inn Ministries.

Adapting to another culture has it’s chal-lenges! We cannot make a bi-weekly trip to Cost-co to stock up on groceries. Amazon Prime will not deliver in 2 days. We have never before truly considered the amount of water we use nor have we done EVERYthing we can to save as much water as possible. When you risk running out of water, you change your thinking quickly! The slower pace of everything is nice! It almost feels like life is actually slower and I love it!

Adjusting to all things “food” has been much easier than I anticipated. I feel like I can finally spoil my children with as much fruit as they

want and spend less than a dollar a day. On top of that, they are eating healthy! Tortillas are a sta-ple and have been a fun part of adjusting. If you catch the twins on a good day, they are “making and selling” tortillas. They even carry their torti-llas in baskets on their heads! They know what they like, and it generally has something to do with food, even in Guatemala!!

While things are different here, I am thank-ful our family never needed much, nor did we need the nicest things. It just is not important! What is important to us is relationships! Relation-ships both within our little family and outside of our family. Relationships that continually point to Jesus! It was not a hard trade to sell most of our belongings to move to Guatemala. We do not consider earthly possession as our goal. Not only is this the case with possessions, but also with culture and lifestyle. There is an adjustment to a new culture, but it is a welcome adjustment for us. It is all part of the adventure!

There is a quote that says, “children are great imitators, so give them something to imi-

tate.” Often times when children are around, we don’t realize how much they are watching our actions. Here at Inn Ministries, we are blessed to have developed such a deep and meaningful re-lationship with the kids whose homes surround our property. Often referred to as the “neighbor-hood kids,” simply because that is who they are to us – a part of our community – we love them as if they were our own. Some of the best times are when we open the gates and let the neigh-borhood kids come and play for a few hours. We want these children to view us as more than just a church. We want to be a family to them; somewhere they know people will al-ways love and care for them. The vision for our neighborhood ministry is: to help them develop into great men and women of God. Every Sat-urday and Wednesday night, we invite the kids to come to our services, even if their parents do not come. We know having the kids in service is so much more important than the little distrac-tions or inconveniences that may occur. Children

are constantly picking up behaviors, developing habits, and identifying truths for themselves – all which will shape them into who they will become as adults. We are being imitators of Christ for these children. They watch us in everything. They see how we worship, how we treat others, and how we live our lives. Our family of neighborhood kids is always expanding, and we love that. To watch the lives and hearts of these kids be changed is a treasure we will never take for granted. We know if God can capture their hearts here, He can also cap-ture the hearts of their families at home. We pray our impact doesn’t stop at the gates of this prop-erty, but that it will go into their hearts and lives forever as they grow into amazing world chang-ers.

Meet the Garcia Mota Family...

Raquel “Raque” grew up at El Meson (the Inn). She first came to the Inn when she was 5 years old. She watched her parents work for God

through the ministry. The Inn was her “Little Bubble”, her place of refuge, her safe place. She and Alejandro met at the age of 14 when Raque and her family visited Alejandro’s church. They met again 9 years later, and decided to start a serious relationship. They married in 2015 and now live in a home near the ministry.

Both are committed to the work of the ministry and the school. Ra-que teaches our youngest students in the Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergar-ten classes. Alejandro is invaluable as our technology manager. He runs our school’s website and emails as well as keeps our phones and security cameras on line. Both are dedicated church members and have pursued service to Christ in all that they do. They are focused on working with the students by sharing Jesus and guiding them to what really matters.

In July, 2016, they were blessed with their daughter, Gracia. She has been a little light at the Inn, and her parents are excited to pass along the vision of the ministry to their next generation. We are so blessed to see this family grow and serve at the Inn!
