THE LAST TIME THEY MET...February 4, 2012

EUGENE, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon University men’s basketball team grabbed an 84-72 road win at Northwest Christian University Saturday.

The Mountaineers (15-9, 8-7 Cascade Collegiate Conference) remain in the hunt for a home postseason game with the victory. The win also clinched a spot in the conference tournament for EOU.

Trent Roos scored 21 points to lead Eastern. The junior made six of his eight three-pointers. Travares Peterson added 16 points and Jamar Johnson had 12 points. Kyllian Wood grabbed a team-high nine rebounds and Cody Thurmond threw eight assists.

Eastern Oregon was 53 percent from the field in the victory. The Mountaineers made 11 of their 19 three-point attempts, and 17-of-27 from the free-throw line. EOU outrebounded the Beacons, 36-30. Eastern threw 23 assists, compared to NCU’s 13. The Mountaineers commit-ted 23 turnovers, while Northwest Christian had 16.

Eastern built an early 10-point lead, 15-5, at the 14:59 mark of the first half. The Beacons would rally and take a one-point lead in the first half. The Mountaineers responded and took 40-29 lead into halftime. EOU stretched its lead to 23 points in the second half.

Brody McGowan was the leading scorer for NCU (10-16, 3-11), hitting 10-for-14 from the field, including 4-for-5 from three-point range for 25 points. McGowan added four steals. Brian Hampton scored 14 points and had a team-high four assists. Greg Shepard scored 12 and led Northwest Christian with six rebounds. The Beacons were 46 percent from the field, 7-of-22 from three-point range, and 7-for-14 from the free-throw line.
