What is MBA (Masters of Business Administration)?

Full form of MBA is Master of Business Administration. MBA/PGDM is one of the most popular post-

graduate programmes in India and abroad. The 2-year programme is a gateway to a plethora of job

opportunities in the corporate world, primarily at the managerial level. MBA course is also popular as it is

open to students from all the streams – Science, Commerce and Humanities.

A regular MBA/PGDM is generally of 2 years having four-six semester, but some private institutes also offer

one-year PGDM programmes. One can pursue MBA in various modes, like regular, online and distance

education. One can also find programmes that are customised to their level of professional experience such

as Executive MBA.

Many management institutes offer Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) or Post Graduate Programme (PGP) in

Management instead of MBA degree. There is not much difference between the two, but for their titles.

The regular MBA also known as Full Time MBA is the most popular amongst all. This programme is a 2-year

residential programme which includes theory classes, practical projects, internships and campus

placement. Fresh graduates as well as candidates with work experience opt for a Full Time MBA.

The Executive MBA is fit for candidates with work experience as it is designed for professionals to enhance

their managerial skills to stay relevant in the job market. Online MBA, Part Time MBA and Distance

MBA programmes are ideal for candidates who wish to study while working or who are pursuing other full

time academic programme such as MCom, MA, MCA or even Law.

The basic eligibility criteria for MBA (Full Time) is Graduation in any discipline or equivalent from a

recognized university

Most of the institutes follow the minimum score criteria in Graduation which is 50% in average or

equivalent. For Reserved category students the minimum score in 45% in aggregate
